Tom Cruise's final role as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 8 may not be his ...

After all, Mission: Impossible 8 may not be Tom Cruise's final film as Ethan Hunt. At least according to the filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie.

The director was asked if Ethan Hunt's last appearance on the Light the Fuse podcast would be. While he did not confirm or deny anything, his reply seemed optimistic.

"Let me tell you, I've been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I can't tell you how many times I've been standing next to him, witnessed an event, then read about it in the trades the next day, and none of what they describe is true," he said.

"We were shooting a scene between Tom and Haley [Atwell] in Birmingham," he said the following day, referring to an instance in which Tom and four others went to dinner at an Indian restaurant.

Tom demanded that he sit at a table not in a private room, but in the main restaurant with the other diners, and that he ordered three orders of chicken masala because he liked it the most.

"I called Tom the next day and said, 'This article is completely factual!' That's the first time I've ever seen an article in which everything came out exactly as written.

McQuarrie then advised fans to not to believe everything they read.

"I read that Mission [Impossible] would be shot concurrently, and then we decided not to do that," said the actor.

"When you read trade papers, put the imaginary word in front of the headline: 'The Agenda Is.' When you read 'anonymous sources' or'sources close to the production say,' that's somebody putting it out there for a specific purpose.

"You want others to believe that for a specific reason, and you can never know for sure what those reasons are." He continued. In today's world, you wait 17 minutes and another news cycle will sweep it away.

Mission: Impossible 7 is expected to be released on July 14, 2023.
