Greg Tarzan Davis shot Top Gun: Maverick in the officially-titled Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One, although it took him a while to complete a major motion picture.
THR asked Greg Davis if there was a moment when he bonded with Tom Cruise or co-writer Christopher McQuarrie, the creative mind behind the next two Mission: Impossible films, on the release of 2022 film that led them to seek him out for a role in Dead Reckoning Part One. Davis replied:
Because Maverick was my first film, I didn't want to rip on anyone's toes, but I didnt understand how everything worked. So I would sneak my way in and say, Hey, can I just stay around till the final set? I didnt even know if I was permitted to do that. So I was like, Hey, can I just stay around or whatever?
Greg Davis' participation in Top Gun: Maverick came about after he auditioned for a small role in The Call of the Wild, and that audition left an impact on casting director Denise Chapman, who later called him back to work on a classified project, according to THR. However, Maverick was also interested in learning more about the filmmaking process as a whole.
So McQ talked to me all the time about cinematography, writing, and storytelling, and then Tom would do it as well. I guess you could say we had that bond. He said he liked what I did on the film. Now what does that mean? Is it the acting? Is it the bonding experience we had? I do not know. But he said he enjoyed what I did on Mission: Impossible 7. He also thought about me as he was writing this novel.
Greg Davis isn't sure what he did to entice Christopher McQuarrie, but he was enough for his long-running role as the lead on the Mission: Impossible films after Rogue Nation to bring him aboard for Mission: Impossible 7. He described Shea Whigham, his co-star in the first part, as one of his greatest scene partners. He wants to be able to talk freely about the film in the future.
Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, and Pom Klementieff are among the new faces joining the cast of Mission: Impossible 7 in 2023, according to our release schedule, and see Greg Tarzan Davis' work in Top Gun: Maverick at a theater near you.
