The Sandman is Netflix's latest fantasy drama series, which comes from the DC region. Following Morpheus, the King of Dreams, the show is anchored by the likes of Tom Sturridge, Asim Chaudhry Charles Dance, and Gwendoline Christie, who previously worked on HBO's Game of Thrones.
Hamill is well-known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, but the veteran actor has acted in many roles throughout his varied and distinguished career, including in hit films such as Sleepwalkers (1992), Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014), and DC's 2014 rendition of The Flash as Trickster.
Hamill, who will reprise his role as Merv in his next role in The Sandman, is cementing himself as one of the most prolific voice actors, and at the age of 70, he is showing no signs of slowing down. In the 1992-1994 Batman Animated Series, he also reprised this role in a number of DC animations.
Hamill appears to excel in his role as the Joker, although she is somewhat different. Speaking at Netflix's Geeked Week panel, Gaiman heaped praise on Hamill, saying, "His Merv is funny," and co-creator of the series Allan Heinberg commented that Hamill is a joy to work with. Given his previous success as a voice actor, it's no surprise Hamill was able to take on this role in a more humorous way.
Netflix is continuing to push the star appeal with Patton Oswalt, who will play the role of Matthew the Raven, the Morpheus emissary, and Mark Hamill's experience adding to the already stacked roster.
