In August 2022, there will be 15 great streaming movies to see ...

Can you believe it? This month's stream of new movies includes favorites like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Alex Garlands' cerebral sci-fi debut Ex Machina, Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog, and many more.

Here are 15 of the best streaming movies coming to streaming platforms in August 2022.

Belle follows Suzu, a shy high school student who returns to the vast online world of U in search of a fresh start following the death of her mother. Suzu meets the Dragon, a monstrous character famous for his reputation for causing havoc. Belle embarks on a quest for the Dragon, discovering a connection far deeper than she could have imagined.

This thrilling tour de force that combines the iconic scenes and emotional narrative beats of director Mamoru Hosodas' previous work and places them in a stunning world created by a swath of talented artists across the globe, is Hosodas' most popular film to date.

Belle is now available on HBO Max for streaming.

This pre-DC Universe DC film is a supernatural neo-noir, starring pre-John Wick Keanu Reeves as a very sarcastic John Constantine. Made very much in the style of an old detective thriller (but with supernatural elements), Constantine is a campy fun time with a great cast (Reeves is joined by Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton, and Peter Stormare, among others) and more than a few silly visual gags

Constantine is now available on Netflix.

Ex Machina

Caleb, a young programmer who gets the opportunity to spend a week with Nathan (Oscar Isaac), an elusive tech CEO, is a key participant in Nathan's next endeavor: a Turing test to test the intelligence of Ava (Alicia Vikander), an advanced humanoid robot. Ex Machina is a stunning, slow-burn sci-fi thriller that ranks among the top 10 films of the 2010s. Toussaint Egan

Ex Machina is now available on HBO Max for viewing.

Face/Off, a delightfully over-the-top 90s action film based on Woos' direction and the two leading actors, is the first film where he feels like he really got to use the muscles that make a John Woo film a John Woo film.

Sean Archer, an FBI agent, was murdered by Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), a terrorist plotting to kill the older Archer. In his quest for revenge, Archer undergoes an experimental face transplant, becoming Troy. Of course, Troy does the same in return, becoming Archer.

When they wrote the script for Face/Off, Mike Werb and Michael Colleary considered Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and I can see it, but im glad we got this one. PV

Face/Off is now available on Paramount Plus and Prime Video for streaming.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

Ghost Dog is a modern-day samurai who lives by the code in Hagakure (also known as The Book of the Samurai) while living in a modern American environment, but is also mysterious even to those he works with. When Ghost Dog is hired to kill a gangster but leaves an innocent bystander alive, a blow is thrown on his life.

Whitaker is terrific in his leading role, and Jarmusch's script and direction are perfect. But Ghost Dog is just a marvellous film soundtrack created by the RZA. PV

HBO Max has released Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai as a stream.

Locke, a contained thriller shot entirely in a car, follows construction worker Ivan Locke (Tom Hardy) as he drives from Birmingham to London the night before a major project. She learns that the woman he is having an affair with is about to have their child. As he travels across the country to join her, Locke is a master class in economical filmmaking by filmmaker Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders).

Locke is now available on HBO Max.

Man on Fire

Man on Fire, a 2004 film starring Denzel Washington as a former CIA agent who was turned bodyguard for a 9-year-old girl in Mexico City, is a brutal, raw, and moving action thriller about a man's quest for redemption and his surrogate love for his charge. With a stunningly beautiful narration by Harry Gregson-Williams and Lisa Gerrard, Man on Fire is an absolute must-see experience.

On Peacock, Man on Fire is available to stream.

The One

Jet Li stars as many, many versions of himself in this 2001 film by James Wong (Final Destination), which is about interdimensional travel. The story follows a homicidal serial murderer who is traveling across the multiverse to kill all other versions of himself and a group of people who are attempting to prevent him from fulfilling his aim.

Back to the Jet Lis: First we have our main characters protagonist Gabe Law, a police officer, and antagonist Gabriel Yulaw, the previously mentioned homicidal serial killer. But there's also Yu Fook Law (Rastafari Jet Li), Swen Law (surfer Jet Li), Seth Law (Jet Li with long hair), and so, so many more.

The One is a popular game because of its fun setup, as well as Lis' special set of skills. Corey Yuen (Yes, Madam) is a professional action director who displays his acrobatic ability with a dynamic energy, particularly in the moments when Li kicks people in midair like soccer balls. Also, Delroy Lindo and Jason Statham (with an American accent and a mostly full head of hair!) are co-stars. PV

On HBO Max, The One is available for viewing.

Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) is the latest addition to the long-running Predator series, taking the sci-fi villain and putting him in the 18th-century United States. Naru (Amber Midthunder), teased by the men in her village for her desire to be a hunter, is the only one who anticipates this danger.

From our review:

Prey is a film about a young woman on a collision course with a cool skull mask, and a late-arriving group of fur traders who are also there to naysay and/or become Predator fodder. Sometimes, Trachtenberg sets up action with overhead shots, giving the camera just enough room for a complete view of obstacles such as a particularly slippery mud pit.

Prey is now available for streaming on Hulu.

Sam Raimis Spider-Man Trilogy

Three of the greatest Marvel movies ever released have now arrived on Netflix and Hulu. Yes, I said three.

Weve discussed Sam Raimi's latest Marvel film as well as new Spider-Man films as well as at Polygon our love of his original Spider-Man trilogy. With an excellent cast with terrific villainous performances, it's hard to beat.

I'll happily join the masses in praising the first two films, both of which are excellent, but I'd like to take a moment to praise the third one. It's messy, yes, but in a really engaging manner (if you can get past the third act or all of the Topher Grace as Venom stuff). Much of this film is about what it means to be a present partner, something Peter fails to excel at.

The Spider-Man trilogy by Sam Raimi is now available on Netflix and Hulu.

Michael Mann's 1981 neo-noir heist thriller Thief stars James Caan (The Godfather), who is forced to accept a job from the Mob in order to pay off his debt. TEXT

Thief is now available on Prime Video.

Uncut Gems

The Safdies (Good Time) 2019 film is not only one of the finest thrillers you can watch at home, but also one of the greatest basketball films. Here, playoff basketball is transformed into a literal life-and-death situation; Uncut Gems is, simply put, a jewel of a film.

Peacock has made Uncut Gems available for viewing.

Under the Skin

Under the Skin is a stone-cold thriller from the master Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast).

From our list of the greatest films of the 2010s:

Under the Skin, Jonathan Glazer's existential sci-fi horror film about an alien who steals men for painful and horrific purposes, is a dark comedy with chilling implications. (Oh, and a shoutout to Micah Levis' piercing icy score.)

Under the Skin is now available for HBO Max users to stream.
