Scarlet and Violet in Pokemon are breaking a long-standing legend

Scarlet and Violet in Pokemon are breaking a long-standing legend ...

The latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet teaser has enthused the community, revealing new Pokemon, new plot elements, the region name of Paldea, and more. Indeed, there's still plenty more Game Freak needs to do, but for fans who were eagerly anticipating another teaser, it seems safe to say that it has delivered.

Koraidon and Miraidon, the mascot legendaries of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, were prominent in this teaser. They are unique in several ways, but they also break tradition in one huge way.

The When, If Not the How, of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries

In the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Koraidon and Miraidon will essentially replace HMs, providing the means that players may climb, fly, cross water, and more. There are certainly limitations players haven't seen yet, as it was revealed that players will get Koraidon and Miraidon early on for this purpose. This is the first time, ever, that Pokemon fans have gotten a legendary near the beginning of the game.

In Pokemon Sword and Shield, these events serve as a major climax between players and their enemy team. Team Rocket is after their legendary characters in Ruby and Sapphire, Dialga/Palkia is at the top of Mount Coronet in Diamond and Pearl, and Elite Four/N is at the top of Mount Coronet in Black and White, and so on.

Allowing players to use a legendary right out of the gate would be a completely different proposition. Some gamers believe that, while players will have Koraidon and Miraidon early on, they will not be able to use them in a battle until they complete the three storylines required by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This makes perfect sense, and even if they are not usable in battle, fans will still have a legendary early on in the new games.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released for Nintendo Switch on November 18th.
