The North American servers for Final Fantasy 14s have been affected by a DDoS attack ...

Final Fantasy 14 has been enjoying a brief moment in the sun, thanks to its popular story content. Square Enix has encountered a flaw, which has made the game, at times, too popular. A recent DDOS attack has caused some players to lose interest in the game.

The issue was identified in a post on the official forums on Tuesday evening. As a result, North American players are experiencing the following symptoms:

Worlds, a data center located in North America, is disconnected.

Difficulty logging in to North American data center Worlds

Difficulty in getting data from North American data centers, such as sending and receiving it.

A DDoS is a distributed-denial-of-service attack that seeks to disrupt a targeted sever. DDoS attacks are relatively straightforward; they involve applying brute force to the target by clogging it with internet traffic.

No one has claimed responsibility for the incident as yet. In July, director Naoki Yoshida announced that a planned data center expansion in North America would be postponed for several months due to a semi-conductor shortage. The second stage will take place in the spring or summer of 2023.
