The greatest computer management games in 2022

The greatest computer management games in 2022 ...

The best management games involve being the onein charge. Whether it's yelling at the England manager, chastising those clowns in Congress for doing it again (seriously, what a bunch of clowns), or yelling at Bryce Dallas Howard for running away from dinosaurs in high heels, we all believe we could do better.

Management games have remained one of the most popular PC gaming genres. It's because managing balance sheets, planning cities, and motivating employees are all so easily translated onto the keyboard and mouse.

The humble management simaccounts for some of the greatest PC games of all time, from SimCity's early days to Championship Manager's more recent classics weve got below, is a work of art. Every hour spent laying power cables, changing prices, or adding additional toilets is time well spent.

In 2022, here are the best management games on PC:

Rimworld

After a crash landing on an alien planet, management games like The Sims allow you to manage every aspect of a person's life, right down to what they are up to in the bathroom. RimWorld changes the perspective back a little.

What happens after this crash is partly down to your management abilities. Similarly, what happens after that is up to the AI Storyteller, who sends disasters to you at a regular interval, from minor thunderstorms to vomiting livestock. So, while you might be up to handling the practicalities of this, the individuals in your colony will all react in different ways, ensuring that every game plays out differently.

Since it became available early, this game has received a lot of upgrades. We also reviewed the Royalty expansion as well, and the game may even be played in multiplayer (sort of).

Dyson Sphere Program

The Dyson Sphere Program is a great option if you are looking for a more relaxing management game. The goal is to build your base from the materials across the galaxy in order to explore new technology and eventually build the Dyson Sphere to harness the power of the stars.

There are no enemies or things that can sabotage your stuff, similar to games like Factorio or Satisfactory. The only negative things that can happen is that you run out of resources or have a holdup on the conveyor belts.

Its a great little time sink, and there's such pleasure in figuring out exactly how buildings interact with each other. Weve created a beginners guide for how to play it!

Frostpunk

Frostpunk combines management with survival games' harsh realities. The goal isn't to make money, but to get through every difficult night without condemning your fellow citizens to a sudden and cold death.

Frostpunk, a game from the makers of This War of Mine, which is similar to a group of people attempting to survive in horrifying circumstances, deals with nothing less than the end of the world. The Earth is freezing in thispost-apocalypse game, which means the group under your control must build steam engines to withstand the cold.

Sounded reasonable? It certainly is, except that half the time you are not directing a society youre managing your own morality. Soon, youll find yourself sending frostbitten employees to their deaths in order to clear some snow, or executing your own citizens because they refused to do so.

In our Frostpunk review, this is one of the best management games on PC. Not only because it is different, but also because it allows you to see your own actions in a way unlike no other game.

Tropico 4

The Tropico games are similar to SimCity, except you are required to manage a tropical island conquered by a dictator. SimCuba, anyway. These are some of the funniest management games out there.

You take care of everything you do on your island, from where you get your money, to your exports, to your connections with other countries, to making sure the workers dont revolt, and if they do, will you placate them or mercilessly destroy their revolution? What makes the Tropico games so special in the genre is that you may succeed by keeping your population happy or subjugated under your cruel regime.

Tropico 4 is the most enjoyable game in the series because it is the most well-rounded. Each entry attempts to improve the formula, but Tropico 5 exacerbates things by attempting to go in a different direction. With Tropico 4, you have the freedom to rule your island with an iron fist or not.

Cities: Skylines

Cities: Skylines outperforms most other city creation sims by returning to its roots with freedom, scale, and simple building mechanics.

The most beneficial aspect of the game is that it eliminates the need for individual house placement. Instead, you select a style and spray-paint structures onto the ground. It's simply amazing to see your city just pop up in front of you.

Cities: Skylines is a true heir to the SimCity legacy, as there are a slew of interconnected components to manage and dozens of ways for things to go wrong. Plus, there are thousands of free mods available for download.

Planet Coaster

Frontier Developments did first with Rollercoaster Tycoon and then with Planet Coaster.

Planet Coaster is the ultimate theme park design game. The freedom you have is unmatched. From raising the price of crisps by a penny to designing whole, elaborate rides. In Planet Coaster, you can create an entire experience from scratch, only by your imagination.

Planet Coaster allows you to micromanage your park at every level, and we do mean every level. Its also had a steady stream of official content and tens of thousands of mods since it's released, so there's a ton of gameplay to be had here, none of it is boring.

Two Point Hospital

A young upstart came and knocked it off, although, in this case, the game was developed by several of the originals' developers. Two Point Hospital is a collection of game ideas that are inspired by Bullfrogs' classic Theme Hospital.

Two Point Hospital has a lot in common, and what made Theme Hospital so popular is the gameplay that anyone might grab and enjoy in as little as a few minutes. Then someone gets sick in a bin, the De-Humorifier blows up, or a failed patient comes back from the dead seeking revenge. All in a days' work at Two Point Hospital.

After the brief intro and soon becomes proper challenging, this management game never loses its humour. With plenty of ridiculous diseases and cures, the DJs on the tannoy only add to the fun. Make sure you check under the snack machines as those nasty Monobrows lurk.

Factorio

Factorio is mainly about surviving on the alien world youve crashed on. While initially focusing on survival, mining resources by hand as you would in Minecraft, and fending off the dangerous wildlife, it quickly expands beyond that. It allows you to build massive industry centers, with production lines, automated machines, and solar-powered robots.

Factorio may be too complicated for some people, but once you get into designing and managing your factory, the hours will pass by. It's not the most stunning game on this list, but Factorio is probably the most addictive. We're hoping that the creator will finish it someday.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a game that lets you mingle with locals and take a break from the stresses of making decisions. But don't be fooled: this is a pure and gripping management game that will get your hands dirty for the first time.

Stardew Valley is a game that was left to you by your grandfather, which you may manage with whatever you want. You can grow crops and raise livestock, manage a vibrant jam business, or go underground to eliminate slimes you can breed.

There's still a lot more to do outside of that. Visit a local village and you can make friends with local villagers, or even begin a romantic relationship. There's also a huge map to explore, and you may restore the town hall if you wish to be charitable. Plus, there's a lot of great new Stardew Valley mods.

Farming Simulator 19

Farming Simulator 19 is one of the finest management games ever: with a comprehensive tutorial that gets us started in one of the most comprehensive farming games ever, we know everything we need to know about owning a real farm.

Farming Simulator 19 is packed with new vehicles and equipment than ever before. And, quite literally, hold your horses as John Deere tractors finally make their way to the simulation game. Spoilers: it didn't work out well.

The Sims 3

The Sims was a phenomenon when it first arrived on PCs in 2000. SimCity's little people simulator allowed us to fully manage a family's lives. You can construct their house, hire them jobs, assist them in falling in love, remove the ladder from their pool, and watch them drown. It's all part of the The Sims experience.

The Sims 4 is still incomplete due to the best Sims 4 cheat codes or mods, as well as the ability to visit other locations and manage them.

The Sims 3 is a solid package that looks good today. Just be careful not to name Sims after your close relatives or acquaintances as that doesnt always work out well. What do you mean I was locked in the basement?

Football Manager 2020

With every year's entry to their famous football series, Sports Interactive is a shoe-in for that distinction. FM20 is a bit of a if it aint broken, don't fix it approach. For what's basically a collection of interactive charts, diagrams, and spreadsheets, it's the next best thing to being by the touchline.

If youre new to this sort of thing, here's a guide to some of the best FM20 wonderkids and FM20 strategies you can use to get your season off to a good start.

Jurassic World Evolution 2

The original Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis was released far too long ago. Frontier, the creator of Planet Coaster, had turned up to design a modern adaptation of the classic dinosaur park management sim. The sequel retains much of what made the first game so popular.

Frontier brings the incredible extinct animals to life with incredible animation and sounds that make you think you're John Hammond. Keeping the dinosaurs happy and satisfying the demands of your department heads is a full-time job.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 is a thrilling dinosaur game that will please fans of the franchise and the original, although, as our review points out, its not without its drawbacks. Not that it becomes a chore when there are so many lovely dinosaurs to watch.

Planet Zoo

Frontiers' goal in incorporating humor into every prop, tooltip, and soundtrack beat is to exude unwavering joy. Fortunately, their approach to zoo management games is no different, and while keeping them happy and healthy is their own reward, the increase in visitors and donations is pretty impressive.

The experience for new players has been greatly improved, with some fantasticly simple tools and a tutorial-cum-story hybrid that teaches you the game while still giving you plenty of freedom. This allows you to take away some of the effort from running the park like a ludicrous capitalist, and ensures that your zoo is a good place for your animal residents.
