leftover music files have led to future Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass courses

leftover music files have led to future Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass courses ...

Although the second wave of new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC tracks has just arrived, already skilled dataminers have managed to extract some fascinating bits from the code. The developers apparently left tiny audio snippets of several upcoming DLC tracks hidden away in the code, presumably because they would be too small to decipher the names of future additions.

The internet is packed with individuals who would gladly accept the challenge. According to Twitter user Fishguy6564 and YouTuber BL, the leftover prefetch files which load before the music itself starts reveal the identities of 15 forthcoming courses, including the whole roster for Wave 3. In a stunning display of detective work, the prefetch data, which all amounts to snippets of audio only a second or two long in each case, has mostly been matched to specific tracks from previous Mario Kart games.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass will include:

  • Mario Kart Tours London Loop, Berlin Byways, and Merry Mountain;
  • Mario Kart DS Peach Gardens;
  • Mario Kart Super Circuits Boo Lake (or possibly Broken Pier);
  • Mario Kart 7s Rock Rock Mountain and Rainbow Road;
  • Mario Kart: Double Dashs Waluigi Stadium

Waves 4, 5, and 6 are expected to release a large number of additional tracks, although Wave 3 is the only one to appear to have its entire lineup revealed. Even if the prefetch files are embedded in Wave 2s code, they arent an assurance that these will be the next wave of DLC courses. Currently Waves 3-6 arent even planning to release them all by the end of next year.
