The Most Dangerous Netflix Movies Right Now ...

Netflix's early shift to streaming narrative media earned them the status of the leading movie streaming services. Theyve provided an audience to international filmmakers, and theyve created a catalog of truly terrifying original films.

The once amazing horror library is now being eroded by the increasing fragmentation of the streaming market, but among the still large quantity of titles to choose from, here are a few that are currently more terrifying than others.

Are you stuck for something here? Check out our list of the best horror movies on Hulu, Prime Video, and HBO.

Hush (2016)

Mike Flanagan, 1 h 27 min

Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., and Michael Trucco are among the cast.

A writer lives in a woods house and is stalked by a masked killer. Sounds like a dozen films. Hush is co-written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who gives it a terrifying tinge. The cat-and-mouse chase adds to the tension, and seeing Maddie being sneaked up on because of her deafness is enough to make your skin crawl. - Alyse Wax

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia: 1 hr 34 min | Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia

Ivan Massague, Antonia San Juan, Zorion Eguileor, Emilio Buale, and Alexandra Masangkay are among the cast.

The Platform is one of the most inventive and disturbing dystopian thrillers to hit cinemas in recent years. Here, the people are fed via a platform that begins at the top of the building, while those at the bottom get little to no food. The inhabitants are randomly switched every month, making it a challenging yet extremely compelling film. The message and discussions it raises are more relevant than ever. - Taylor Gates

Cam (2018)

Daniel Goldhaber: 1 hr 35 min

Madeline Brewer, Patch Darragh, Melora Walters, Devin Druid, and Imani Hakim star as the cast.

Cam is an excellent production for doppelganger and digital age horror. The story of a webcam girl whose account and likeness have been stolen is disturbing enough, yet the film succeeds in making her everyday terrifying. Stigma, stalkers, and danger of exposure create vulnerability and tension throughout the film.

Madeline Brewer plays Alice, aka Lola, who rises the leaderboards on her camming website with such sincerity and passion that she encourages viewers to support her on her quest for fame. Her face, body, home, and outfits are mysteriously recreated. It's a kind of monkeys paw wish wrapped in a doppelganger narrative, set in a contemporary forum. It's scary, its provocative, and for the finest viewing experience, it shouldn't be

The Conjuring (2013)

The Conjuring 2 (2015)

The Conjuring 2 is a visually and tonally comparable film to The Conjuring series. The film returns as Ed and Lorraine Warren's endearing investigators attempting to help a family in England. There are many new terrifying apparitions in the sequel, as well as an incredible performance by a talented child actress. It's a little over the top, but it sets the stage for further film under the Conjuring umbrella.

Creep (2014)

Patrick Brice, 1 hr 17 min

Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass are the actors.

Crimson Peak (2015)

Guillermo del Toro | 1 hr 58 min

Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver star in the film.

With Crimson Peak, Guillermo del Toro returned to the director's chair for a terrifying and colorful gothic romance story. It takes its time fleshing out the lush Victorian setting and era, but the beautiful costumes, dramatic lighting, and hammy performances create an atmosphere unique to the film that lasts till the opening act.

The audience is afraid for the protagonist because they possess the knowledge of her danger. Crimson Peak isnt attempting to sway the audience with the Sharp family's duplicity. Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) play a dangerous duo as they plot to steal and kill Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland). The main setting, Crimson Peak itself, and whether Edith (Mia Wasikowska) will

Dont Listen (2020)

Angel Gomez Hernandez | 1 h 38 min

Rodolfo Sancho, Ana Fernandez, Ramon Barea, Belen Fabra, Lucas Bias, and Nerea Barros are among the actors on this evening.

The haunted house film starts where most films with a similar premise start getting good. There is no move-in sequence, no first night in the house heebie-jeebies. The nightly whispers through his walkie-talkie compel and confuse him until his family can no longer ignore that something is wrong.

Despite its clever subversion of the typical haunted house opening, the film plods along with the same beats audiences familiar with the haunted house genre would expect from the set-up to the conclusion. Its the execution that elevates it to a higher position when compared to similar films: its consistent color application, symmetry in the opening and closing scenes, and a boldness in character expenditure.

Eli (2019)

Ciaran Foy | 1hr 38 min

Charlie Shotwell, Kelly Reilly, Max Martini, Lili Taylor, Sadie Sink, and Deneen Tyler star in the film.

Eli is an excellent haunted house film that tries to alter the script in the third act. His family sends him to a sterile in-patient treatment center to treat his allergies. Ghostly encounters complicate his treatment and isolate him from his family, and the way Ciaran Foy (Sinister 2) keeps the viewer in Elis shoes for each scare is part of what makes this film so haunting.

Geralds Game (2017)

Mike Flanagan: 1 h 43 min

Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Chiara Aurelia, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel star as the cast.

The Haunting of Hill House, a captive thriller by Mike Flanagans, finds herself handcuffed to a bed during unexpectedly kinky sex games she never intended for or imagined. It's a devastating start for Jessie (Carla Gugino) as she struggles to survive and signal for help while being held captive to an immovable wooden bed frame.

Geralds Game is one of the best-rounded films on this list, featuring moving performances, horrifying colors, and terrifying hallucinations and special effects. These thoughts are difficult to digest in the anxieties of watching a helpless woman lose her life. Its uncomfortable, it's subversive, it's smart, and it's no wonder Flanagan and Stephen King found a hand in his adaptations of Kings' works.

His House (2020)

Remi Weeks | 1 hr 33 min

Sope Dirisu, Wunmi Mosaku, Malaika Wakoli-Abigaba, Matt Smith, and Javier Botet are among the cast members.

His House will always be one of Netflix's scariest films. Its a horrific tale that follows a married couple who has fled Sudan and is cursed by a night witch's curse, and it's both terrifying and moving. The setbacks they face in the new world they fled to in escape of the hell they left behind are compounded by spectacular visual effects and sharp editing that add to the film's compelling narrative.

May The Devil Take You (2018)

Timo TjahJanto | 1 hr 50 min

Chelsea Islan, Pevita Pearce, Ray Sahetapy, Karina Suwandhi, and Samo Rafael make up the cast.

With Hereditary, A Quiet Place, Climax, Halloween, Suspiria, and other genres dominating the silver screen, May The Devil Take You may have slipped by during the busy horror release schedule of 2018, but for the uninitiated, it's time to get acquainted with the Indonesian horror film. Timo TjahJanto (The Night Comes for Us, 2020), along with frequent working partner Kimo Stamboel (The Queen of Black Magic, 2020),

The film follows a split family forced to reconnect in the final days of the death of their estranged, seemingly insane father. As they prepare to raid his house, they encounter an evil that is a cross between Evil Dead and The Queen of Black Magic. Its a tad over the top at places, but its combination of perfect to the point of jarring practical effects and CGI makes for enjoyable watchable sequences.

Ravenous (2017)

Robin Aubert | 1h 36 min

Marc-Andre Grondin, Monia Chokri, Charlotte St-Martin, Michelin Lanctot, Brigitte Poupart

Ravenous (2017), a French-Canadian zombie film that isn't to be confused with Ravenous (1999), is a fresh but familiar survival story that includes scares, humor, and scenery in the face of extraordinary situations. Thanks to Marc-Andre Grondin, Charlotte St-Martin, and Martin Heroux, the film is a refreshing and relatable zombie movie.

The Ritual (2017)

David Bruckner | 1 hr 34 min

Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali, Robert James-Collier, Sam Troughton, and Paul Reid as actors

The Ritual demonstrates that helplessness can be equally as terrifying as isolation. When the film comes to an end, Luke (Rafe Spall) becomes helpless to control his friends' views on how he could have acted to save Robert, and when the group goes on a hiking excursion in his name, they become helpless in traversing the woods. Odd iconography and runic inscriptions serve as high points in this pseudo-creature film.
