Half-Life 2 Is The New Steam Shooter, And It Ruled ...

I've probably written this before on this website, but whenever someone asks me what I love about Half-Life 2, I'll reply, and that's what draws my attention. If a game succeeds and also includes its own gravity gun, I'll be overjoyed about it.

Adaca is a first-person shooter that is a self-described throwback to the late 1990s and early 2000s. These were the days of the linear shooter: Half-Life 2, Halo, and Far Cry. These are types of shooters where you only have one path through each level and playspace, but the areas are larger than Doomshallways, are fascinating to explore, and are often filled with environmental puzzles.

Your main character is given a gravity gun-like arm and is forced to confront space officers who trigger a loud scream when killed in the first 20 minutes of Adaca. And, like Gordon Freeman, the main star of the Valves Half-Life series, your main character never speaks on their long, unbroken journey from point A to point B.

The one who created Adacaclearly understands what made Half-Life 2 and its predecessors work. For example, an early section involves a train, a decaying bridge, and not much else but the distant crow's roar. Of course, you may also grab a big box and aim it at the bastard, knocking him off the bridge completely.

Gaming! Features exclusive ultra-fast wireless technology that guarantees that your mouse is faster than you are, can be sued alongside special software for extremely customizable performance, 11 buttons to manipulate, and RGB lighting as well.

Another level includes limited ammunition and a slew of small objects that you can aim at zombie-like enemies. Or you can use larger ones to create obstacles to distract them while you research how to escape.

The way this indie shooter maintains its flow and pacing like a Half-Life game does. Other times I encountered performance issues or empty rooms that felt unfinished. All of this just reminded me of the game's size and its limited resources.

It's one of my favorite games I've played this year when Adaca is working and nailing the Half-Life 2-feel. Anyone who loved Half-Life 2 or Alyxor any of the episodes should at the very least try the games free demo.

I have not even mentioned that this game also includes a full, alternate open-world campaign. So once you get tired of replaying the past, you get a whole other mode that plays more like a modern, large-scale shooter, like recent Far Cry games. What a value!

Adaca is available on Steam and Itch.io for PC. There's also a free demo available to play now if you want to try it out before you buy.
