James Wans Insidious always creeps into our heads when we think of the best that modern horror has to offer. This year, the film is expected to give genre lovers nightmares once more next July, and we now have some significant casting information. Peter Dager, Sinclair Daniel, and Hiam Abbass have joined the fifth installment in unknown roles.
Since the film was announced, the cast of The Further has returned.
Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) goes east to drop his son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) off at an idyllic, ivy-covered college. However, the Daltons college dream becomes a nightmare when the demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.
At this time, who are those demons, but classic characters like The Bride in Black, The Woman in White, and The Man With the Fire in His Face may make a haunting comeback. College and horror also go wonderfully together like peanut butter and jelly. That deadly combination with the pre-established lore and artful style gives this sequel an edge over its previous releases.
Dager, Daniel, and Abbass are relatively unknown to geneal users, but Daniel has appeared in popular shows like The Good Fight and Bull, while Abbas has had an over three-decade film career, including roles in Blade Runner 2049, Steven Spielberg's Munich, and smash hit series Succession. She will next appear in the Hellraiser reboot later this year.
The series is certainly going to be exciting to see what they bring to the project, but the most intriguing thing this sequel has going for it is Wilson's direction. It's possible that this franchise will need to rebuild itself from the top of the genre totem pole.
On July 7, 2023, Insidious 5 will be released in theaters. While we await further details on our return to The Further, you may now stream the first two Insidious chapters on Netflix.
