This is especially seen in landscapes that appear alien or operate according to their own logic.

Traveling to other worlds is a form of entertainment for children who want to experience something new than their own: sometimes behind the smile is a foe in disguise, and over the next mountain may be a mature lesson waiting to be taught. Neither they nor the audience will find out until they decide to take the next step.

'Adventure Time'

The story of Fin and Jake and their adventures through the land of Ooo helped Cartoon Network escape its dark period and set the tone for a new golden age of children's cartoons, thanks to its engaging characters and simplistic yet engaging art style.

Fin and Jake discover themselves in different worlds, on other planets, or even in the land of the dead. This is when the animators and story-writers could experiment and create new characters in a show that was well-known for being just that.

However, her unruly nature persuades her parents to send her to earth as a foreign exchange student so she won't ruin their castle. Together, she learns about Earth culture, fights monsters, and blossoms into a princess.

Star and Marco's adventures include not just Earth and Mewnie. They can explore all kinds of universes thanks to a special item called Dimensional Scissors, many of whom are unaware of one another because of this dimensional travel. It's an interesting look at how different worlds would practice diplomacy in today's multiverse-obsessed society.


When Anne Boonchoy steals a music box for her friends, it opens a magical portal and sucks them into the world of Amphibia. Anne is separated from the others and settles in the hamlet of Wormwood. Together they teach each other about their respective cultures while trying to get Anne and her friends back.

Amphibia has a lot of freedom to experiment with its wildlife, particularly when it comes to the design of frog worlds. Many creatures resemble oversized snakes, praying mantises, and dragonflies, but they are enhanced with new abilities that make them appear alien.

'Over The Garden Wall'

The brothers Wirt and Greg are caught off guard in a strange forest called The Unknown on Halloween, while avoiding the strange Beasts that stalk the woods.

The Unknown is a fascinating world because it plays with one's perception. It's like stepping into a fairytale, in which characters are referred to rather than names, animals go to school, and magic is very real. Very few things are as they seem, and every day the boys must fight back from the fear of losing forever.

'Infinity Train'

There is a train that goes forever that discovers people with unresolved trauma, takes them onboard, and assigns them a number on their hands. The number on their hands decreases until it reaches zero, and they can return.

Infinity Train allows its characters to explore micro-worlds connected to a central hub world. The various cars lead to unique and creative landscapes related to helping the passenger confront their trauma. It provides a fascinating insight into how trauma can be buried within the human mind and how much effort is required to move on.


Young Rudy Tabootie discovers a piece of magic chalk that allows him to enter ChalkZone. Every drawing that has ever been erased from a chalkboard is a living, breathing organism, including Rudy's superhero creation, Snap. Together, they explore ChalkZone and try to keep it safe from humans and drawings who seek to exploit the chalk for their own ends.

Rudy can use the magic chalk to create whatever he wants within ChalkZone, allowing for creative problem-solving. Things he adds to the world become permanent, such as a second eye on a Cyclops to give him depths perception. It isn't perfect, however, as things like water and vacuum cleaners from the real world can bring the apocalypse.

'Kid Cosmic'

A kid named Kid discovers a series of space rocks that have superpowers and distributes them among his friends to form his own superhero team one night in the middle of nowhere. Together they fight to protect the community from aliens eager to acquire the stones for galactic conquest.

Season 1 of The Powerpuff Girls takes place on earth, while the second season takes place on space. This allows the characters to visit interesting alien planets, each with unique designs and a few new powers.

'Mia and Me'

Mia Marconi discovers a book from her deceased father is a portal to a magical land called Centopia. Here, she transforms into an elf and meets many of the land's inhabitants, including elves, pans, and unicorns. Together, she attempts to unravel the mystery of the book and save Centopia from evil.

Mia and Me is a great children's program, although it's not designed for younger viewers. The various creatures, particularly the unicorns, are colorful and fun. It's a wonderful contrast to the human world, which is presented using live actors, reflecting the children's imagination.

'12 Forever'

Reggie Abbot loves being a kid and never wants to grow up, so she created another world called Endless, which she has populated with her old toys and drawings. Together, they enjoy playing superheroes and avoiding the everyday responsibilities of the real world. Unfortunately, the more they escape their problems, the more Endless they become.

Endless Island is a wonderful location for the series. Its inhabitants are bright and colorful, appropriate for children's toys. However, many of them have off-putting designs and are incapable of making decisions without the help of the main characters. It's a subtle way the series represents the transition from child to adult.


While recovering a magic artifact, a horse and her rider are attacked by Minotaurs. The horse discovers that she can talk and has been transported to a strange place of centaur creatures. After completing her quest with other items scattered around Centaurworld, she returns home.

Centaurworld asks how many things can be made into centaurs, and the answer is "everything." Inanimate objects like houses and tornadoes are made into centaurs, creating a unique design that contrasts with the harsher, more grounded world Horse is from. Yet there is a danger in the pastel world, as the longer Horse stays, the more her art-design changes to resemble the inhabitants.
