Hidden Variable Studios announced that after ten years since the launch of Skullgirls, Marie will finally be a playable character in 2023. During EVO 2022, the developer dropped a teaser confirming the character would fill the last roster spot on Skullgirls 2nd Encores Season 1 Pass.
The teaser itself did not include any footage of the character in action, but it did include scenes of Marie talking with her close friend Peacock, who was later dubbed Patricia.

Marie has been a popular character in Skullgirls for both gameplay and narrative reasons. Skullgirls designers have previously stated that Umbrella, Black Dahlia, and Marie must be playedable in order for the games' canon story to be told. Interestingly, with Maries unveiling, all three characters will be a part of the games season pass.
Skullgirls was originally released in 2012, and has since seen a slew of upgrades and re-releases, with the current version of the game being Skullgirls 2nd Encore. The game has not only developed a large, loyal, and friendly following throughout its development.
Skullgirls is one of several games to be shown at EVO 2022, with the title heading the event's first day. SonicFox was the eventual winner of the EVO 2022 Skullgirls, overcoming dekillsage.
EVO 2022 has also received a number of other notable fighting game announcements, including the first official re-release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 following its delisting from a licensed arcade cabinet, and Capcom announced two new commentators for Street Fighter 6: Tasty Steve and James Chen.
