Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: Age of New Heroes, a fighting game that first appeared in 2000, is widely recognized as the best ever. Other games in the genre include Warlords of the Galaxy, Iron Man, and Assassinate the Titans.
Fans have since asked Capcom and Marvel to re-release this game, which came to a head thanks to prominent YouTuber and FGC figurehead Maximilian Dood. Last year, he started an online campaign to bring back Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to hopefully persuade relevant parties to re-release the game. Arcade1Up, an arcade cabinet producer, has revealed that a brand-new cabinet of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will be released this year.
With this arcade cabinet, which has been officially licensed by both Marvel and Capcom, fans will be able to play MvC2 in matches from around the world.
This arcade cabinet includes an exclusive piece of side panel art, as well as a custom riser that can be used to adjust the machine's height so players may play the game while standing up straight, as if they were back in the arcades themselves.
Fans have expressed their joy at the news of the release of this cabinet, with EVO champion Justin Wong saying that Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 has finally been "freed" after so many years. It's unclear whether this arcade re-release will lead to a modern version later on, but this at least gives fans a chance to experience a collection of classic Marvel fighting games.
Arcade1Up's Marvel vs. Capcom 2 cabinet will be released in early October 2022.
