How Long Does It Take to Beat Persona 3 Portable vs. Personal 5 Royal?

How Long Does It Take to Beat Persona 3 Portable vs. Personal 5 Royal? ...

RPG video games evolved as a video game genre and carried their board and tabletop game counterparts' quirks with them. With some notable exceptions, such as the Pokemon series, RPG video games tend to take a long time to beat. This happens regardless of the gameplay being turn-based or real-time and the game being made in Japan or in the west. The Persona series, now one of the major JRPG franchises in the industry, is no exception.

The Persona series has always struggled with its length, which is likely why it was initially a cult classic at best. However, Persona 3 established the series' modern formula and identity, gradually dissecting it from Shin Megami Tensei. Despite the modernity, Persona 5 is just as long as its predecessors, if not longer.

Persona 3 Portables Have a Longer Life Than Persona 5 Royal

Persona 3 Portable is not short by any means, but it may be easier for newcomers to digest than other Persona games like Persona 5 Royal. Portable isn't the first updated re-release of Persona 3, although it's similar to Persona 3 FES, which has a shorter playthrough, according to HowLongToBeat. This may seem contradicting due to the fact that FES has less content, but it makes sense when considering the limitations of the PSP.

Because of the newfound availability of male party members, Portable has more social connections, which means there are no extra scenes that can alter certain story events. The real world is a visual novel in play, unlike Persona 5 Royal, which did not alter the format to accommodate new features.

Persona 5 Royal was praised for both improving the traditional series mechanics and some of the original games mistakes, but the game did not correct one thing. The direction it took is the exact opposite of Persona 3 Portable's choice.

Royal added new Confidants, which were crucial because the postgame would be inaccessible without these Confidants storylines. Even without a third semester, Persona 5 Royal is around 105 hours long, which is 40 hours longer than an average playthrough of Persona 3 Portable.

Persona 3 Portable playthroughs will be between the 60 and 80 hours long, whereas Persona 5 Royal's shorter duration makes it equally accessible.
