On PC, FFXIV Island Sanctuary is essentially Animal Crossing ...

Naoki Yoshida, the director of Final Fantasy XIV, has demonstrated the new FFXIV Island Sanctuary mode for the critically acclaimed MMORPG, confirming that it is basically Animal Crossing on PC. The demonstration of the farming game mode took place as part of Live Letter 72, which discusses the upcoming FFXIV 6.2 expansion in depth.

The island sanctuary for Final Fantasy XIVs will be released on August 23 alongside patch 6.2, and each player will have their own individual island to explore and build upon. Youll need to complete the events from Patch 6.0, which is the base Endwalker storyline, to gain entrance to the island, first arriving on one of its beaches.

The scale of the islands is truly unique, and the amount of content included appears to match. Yoshi-P estimates that the mode's tutorials would take players about two and a half hours to complete, giving you an idea of how much you'll need to pay for it. Players may gather resources, turn them into tools and materials, and organize your facilities.

There are no battles on the island, and the added speed of the mounts along with reduced sprint and return recast times should make getting around simple. Everything related to the island goes into a specific inventory specific to the mode, so you can keep it separate and not clutter up your regular inventory with stuff.

As you progress, youll be able to capture the wildlife that is circling the island and bring them back to your camp, where they may be farmed for additional money. Bugs can also be captured using nets, and also provide their own materials, much like in Animal Crossing. Building designs become more advanced with time, although Yoshida assures players that they can keep the simpler designs.

Your island will also have its own rank and experience, which will unlock specific island scrips that may be used for unique glamours and mounts anywhere in the game (none of which are gender-locked). Crops will need to be watered regularly or theyll stop growing, but rainfall will also play a role, so you may not have to do all the work yourself.

Once you have advanced enough, you can also assign NPCs to complete your busywork for you. That should help the Island Sanctuary feel more like a home away from home. At least youll be able to queue for tasks while youre there, if you remember that you're still playing an MMO!
