On the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, a substantial shift was confirmed. Jon Batiste is no longer the bandleader.
For a number of reasons, the Batistes star has grown astronomically over the past few years. He may want to concentrate more on that and his personal life, since he has been away from the show for the majority of the summer anyway.
Jon has decided to withdraw from the program this summer, for all the good reasons, including to continue to amaze the world. We wanted to give him a big, in-person talk, but he isn't there. I hope his new album is called More Grammys Please.
Jons incredible talent has been so fortunate to have a front row seat for the last seven years will we miss him here? Yes! We were so happy for you, and I cant wait to see you back in the game with your next record.
When The Late Show returns for its new season in September, Louis Cato of Stay Human will be the permanent bandleader.
Many of you who have been watching late-night television know that bands are pretty much a staple of this sort of programming. Bandleaders serve as an excellent ally for the host on stage. The Late Showin particular has a great history with Batiste and Paul Shaffer holding the title throughout the years.
