Live Letter 72 has released the release date for FFXIV 6.2 as well as details for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.2 update. Among the highlights are new story content revolving around the Void, the next stage of the Pandaemonium: Abyssos raid series, and the incredible Animal Crossing style Island Sanctuary, which transforms the MMO into a crafting and farming game.
Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.2 will be released on August 23. The general outline of the new patch was previously discussed in Live Letter 71, but this time, game director Naoki Yoshida and community producer Toshio Murouchi will be able to see some of the new 6.2 and 6.25 content in person, and look into some of the most anticipated content in greater detail.
The new main scenario quests and trial, which appear to be taking place in the Thirteenth Shard (also known as the Void), are also addressed this time, although Yoshi-P insists that the trial's precise nature will be kept secret until patch day to preserve the mystery. However, we did get a glimpse of a creature that is very likely Scarmiglione from Final Fantasy IV, which complies with previous expectations.
For the first time in Final Fantasy XIVs history, Yoshida asks players to rate the upcoming raid tier. He hopes that it will allow players who want to compete for world first to really enjoy the content after the launch.
Yoshida says he believes the savage difficulty for this patch is quite challenging and that even if you go in with 900 tomes, I feel like it is on a good level with a lot of new mechanics. When trying to accomplish the first two floors of the savage raid tier within a two hour testing period, Yoshida said he was struggling to remember all of the mechanics.
Yoshida showed off a brief glimpse of a raid against a Proto-Carbuncle, arguing that originally a carbuncle might have been this type of creature, but it ended up in Pandaemonium. After a brief preview of the fights mechanics (and a rebuttal of players asking to summon the proto-carbuncle themselves, because you cant control them), Yoshida showed off some of the raid armor sets.
The raid sets include several very striking designs, including some very detailed armor that combines classic Final Fantasy with some more contemporary high fantasy, and some armor with fiery visual effects that are set ablaze in oranges, reds, and purples. Importantly, the exchange rate for the Abyssos Mythos tomes will be lower in the new raid tier only requiring four copies each for the gear that is equipped to the head, hands, and feet (rather than the usual six).
The new Hildibrand quests, Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures, are coming in patch 6.25. Yoshida jokes that when he revisits the new quests, he will see even more of their trademark over the top wit. Dont forget that these quests will also include Endwalker relic weapons, meaning you will need to hire Godbert to craft your strongest weapons this time.
With the release of 6.2, adventurer plates and their associated portraits will be released from beta. Previously, Yoshida predicted that any portraits created during the beta phase would be deleted, but now it is possible to use it in conjunction with the full release of the feature. The glamour dresser is also increasing its capacity to 800 slots, as a result of the capacity!
Some enhancements are being implemented step by step in the lead-up to the expected graphics update for FFXIV 7.0s, which will speed up the implementation and debugging process. This includes the implementation of optimised graphics processing and dynamic resolution, which players may choose to enable when your GPU load is high, in order to maintain a consistent frame rate.
Yoshida explains how critical and direct hits will work. Previously, classes that utilised skills that guaranteed critical hits or direct hits didn't get as much benefit from gear or party buffs that increased the rate at which they occur. Actions that guarantee critical or direct hits will also inflict more damage when they are buffed.
The new patch will begin with the same amount of rewards as previous series one. Importantly, Yoshida warns that players at the higher levels may be demoted when losing matches at the lowest stage of the rank. However, your highest rank will still count towards the end of the season.
The new Omicron tribal quests will be added in patch 6.25, including a giant, adorable rodent with a very puffy tail as a boss fight.
Yoshida shows off the previously announced The Sildihn Subterrane and Another Sildihn Subterrane dungeons, and more importantly, ASS (savage).
Yoshida invites players to take a journey through the Subterrane. Players will encounter various boss fights and obtain different story fragments that can then be assembled to reveal the true nature of things.
Variant Cure, Variant Ultimatum, Variant Raise, Variant Spirit Dart, and Variant Rampart are five different variant dungeons that players will be able to perform in a smaller party or with a different party structure.
The criterion dungeon, which is a tougher variation on the variant, is a lot stronger than its counterparts in the variant. Yoshida says that the criterion dungeon's savage mode requires a premade party of four, and removes ground attack indicators for enemies including the general mobs. However, he assures players that the game is going to be really fun.
The live letter is dedicated to exploring the new Island Sanctuary feature, which is speculatively something like FFXIVs' spin on Animal Crossing. The segment is so extensive, in fact, that weve given it its own explanation article, so please click on the link for all of the juicy information.
