Attention horror enthusiasts, we're going through a terrifying but exhilarating revival of the genre right now. All year round, ghost stories, gore, and jump scares are welcomed, and there are a lot of new horror films on the way.
Between today, the rest of the year, and the end of the year, there's a solid line up of horror titles that have already been released on the calendar. There's even more to come that have yet to be released:
Beast - August 19, 2022
Beast is a family film starring Idris Elba, who has just married his two daughters, Iyana Halley and Leah Jeffries, who he takes to the African Savanna on vacation. However, once the family arrives in South Africa, a deadly lion begins to attack them. Directed by Everest and Adrift director Baltasar Kormakur, the film is set in theaters just in time to kick off the summer season.
Orphan: First Kill - August 19, 2022
Isabelle Fuhrman's terrible character will return in a prequel to Orphan, which was released in 2009 and will star Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland as the missing daughter of a wealthy family. The film will be available for streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.
The Invitation - August 26, 2022
The Invitation follows a woman named Evie (played by Nathalie Emmanuel) who undertakes a DNA study and reconnects with a long-lost cousin after losing her mother in an English countryside where she finds herself in a haunting survival scenario, according to a Sony Pictures description.
Barbarian - September 9, 2022
Georgina Campbells Tess, who is traveling for an interview, gets a rental car from Bill Skarsgards Keith, who claims to be already staying there. Tess decides to stay the night there, but there's a lot more than a mistaken double booking in the house. Justin Long plays a mysterious character in the movie.
Dark Harvest - September 9, 2022
The 2007 novel, "Dark Harvest," is based on David Slade's work on the groundbreaking choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror episode, Bandersnatch. The book is set on Halloween in 1963 and follows the October Boy, Ol Hacksaw Face or also known as Sawtooth Jack, as he rises from a cornfield in a midwestern town with a butcher knife to a group of teen boys who seek to confront him.
Jeepers Creepers: Reborn - September 19, 2022
Jeepers Creepers: Reborn is a returning horror franchise that will be shown in theaters from September 19 to September 21 as a special three-night fan event per Screen Media Films. The film is said to be the starting of an all-new trilogy for the Jeepers Creepers franchise, directed by Timo Vuorensola.
Dont Worry Darling - September 23, 2022
Olivia Wilde's directorial debut is Back Behind the Camera for a Romance film starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and Nick Kroll. Following Pugh's memorable performance in Midsommar, we can't wait to see her contribute to the genre in the future.
My Best Friends Exorcism - September 30, 2022
My Best Friends Exorcism is based on Grady Hendrix's bestseller 2016 book. Abby's (Fisher) best friend Gretchen (Amiah Miller) becomes possessed by a demon. Abby meets the help of a mall exorcist (Christopher Lowell) to free her from the demon.
Smile - September 30, 2022
As the Halloween season approaches this fall, Paramount is releasing a horror film Smile starring As We See Its Sosie Bacon, which follows a patient's horrific encounters and starts flashing creepy smiles. Smile is directed by Parker Finn, who is also starring Kyle Gallner and Kal Penn.
Halloween Ends - October 14, 2022
With Halloween Ends, David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy will finish during the 2022 Halloween season. After the horrific events of Halloween Kills, Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role as Laurie Strode in the film in order to face Michael Myers one last time. The film is expected to take place four years after the conclusion of Halloween Kills and bring the scream queens' iconic story to a close.
Prey For The Devil - October 28, 2022
Prey For The Devil, a previously called The Devils Light, will follow a 25-year-old nun who believes exorcisms are her higher calling. Unfortunately, sisters are not allowed to perform them themselves. She decides to take her desires into her own hands when she discovers someone to exorcise, but finds herself confronted with a demonic force with deep connections to her own past.
Wendell & Wild - October, 2022
Wendell & Wild, a horror film starring Jordan Peele, has been brought together by his long-time Key & Peele partner Keegan-Michael Key, who wrote the screenplay and will direct the film. Wendell & Wild is a stop-motion animation film that will depict two demon brothers who must face off against their arch-nemesis, a nun named Sister Helly and her two goth children, Kat and Raoul.
The Menu - November, 18, 2022
The Menu, a horror comedy starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Fiennes, and John Leguizamo, will be released in theaters this autumn. The couple travels to a remote island to dine at an exclusive restaurant managed by a well-known chef (Fiennes), and discover hidden gems along the way.
Hellraiser - TBA, 2022
Another exciting Hellraiser remake will be released on Hulu sometime this year, with Hiam Abbass, Goran Visnjic, and Brandon Flynn as producers. The Night House and The Rituals David Bruckner are the original writers.
M3GAN - January 13, 2023
M3GAN, a science fiction horror film starring Get Outs Allison Williams, is well-known for his contributions to modern horror films within the Conjuring universe, most recently with Malignant. The film will be released in theaters in 2023.
Last Voyage Of The Demeter - January 27, 2023
Andre vredal, the filmmaker behind 2019's Scary Stories to Tell In The Dark, is developing another horror film, Last Voyage of Demeter, based on a single chapter from the Bram Stokers 1897 Dracula novel, that will depict the events of the crew, who are watched by a terrifying presence every night on the ship going from Carpathia to London. The film stars Corey Hawkins and David Dastmalchian of In The Heights.
Unwelcome - January 27, 2023
With Unwelcome, Irish filmmaker Jon Wright is bringing the haunts of his region to their region. Ant-Man and the Wasps Hannah John-Kamen and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Douglas Booth play as Londoners who decide to escape city life to rural Ireland. However, in the forests surrounding them lurk murderous goblins and so forth.
Knock At The Cabin - February 3, 2023
Following the release of Olds in summer 2021, M. Night Shyamalan is working on another horror film that focuses on a house invasion that takes place during the apocalypse. It will star Steve Bautista of Guardian of the Galaxy, Jonathan Groff of Mindhunter, and Harry Potter's Rupert Grint. Knock At The Cabin will be another original from the filmmaker behind The Sixth Sense and Glass trilogy.
Scream 6 - March 31, 2023
Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette are among the actors who played the Carpenter sisters in Woodsboro, played by Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Browns. He is not expected to return.
Renfield - April 14, 2023
Renfield, a dark comedic horror film starring Nicolas Hoult, will portray Count Dracula. Renfield will get a fresh start when he falls in love with Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina). Also on the cast is Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Bess Rous, who directed The Tomorrow Wars.
Salems Lot - April 21, 2023
Following the success of films like the It films, another Stephen King novel is being reimagined. The adaptation of the 1975 novel Salems Lot will star Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Spencer Treat Clark, Alfre Woodard, William Sadler, and Pilou Asbk. The story follows an author who returns home to his childhood hometown to look for inspiration.
Insidious 5 - July 7, 2023
Patrick Wilson will reprise his role as Scott Teems as well as direct the film itself, for the first time in a cinema. The Invisible Man is based on a story by 2020s filmmaker Leigh Whannell, and Rose Byrne will reprise her role as Renai Lambert.
The Exorcist - September 15, 2023
After the Halloween trilogy, David Gordon Green, Universal, and Blumhouse Productions will reunite to direct a follow-up to the famous Exorcist films. It will star Ellen Burstyn once again alongside Hamiltons Leslie Odom Jr. It is said to be the first act of another horror trilogy.
A Quiet Place: Day One - September 22, 2023
A Quiet Place Part II was a theatrical hit, and another Quiet Place sequel is expected in 2023. This film will be directed by Pigs Michael Sarnoski, following an idea by Krasinski, and will take us into the stories of the invasions.
