Falcons vs Lions Preview

On Friday at Detroit, the Atlanta Falcons will get a good look at their rookie quarterback of the future, Desmond Ridder.

Ridder was selected in the third round of the April draft by Atlanta. He led the Cincinnati Bearcats to the College Football Playoff and ran for 3,334 yards and ran for 3,553 yards in 2021. Although Ridder likely will not defeat veteran Marcus Mariota in the starting position, Ridder's leadership has changed dramatically during training camp.

The Atlanta Falcons (@AtlantaFalcons) will be crowned on August 11, 2022.

According to Falcons quarterbacks coach Charles London, he's a natural leader, and leadership is difficult. People can tell you he's a leader, but most guys that are fantastic leaders lead by their own style, their own ways.

Jared Goff, the starting quarterback for the Detroit Lions, has had a good training camp thus far, but veterans David Blough and Tim Boyle have a battle for the backup position. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said his staff is taking it as it comes.

Campbell said that both of them are capable of doing it. Bloughs is a little more of, man, he's gonna find a way. Thats what he's about, but he can certainly run the offense. Boyles has all of the gifts, all of the qualities, and then hes just consistently doing it.

Campbell will get his first look at the Lions No. 2 draft pick Aidan Hutchinson for the first time at training camp. The Michigan rookie defensive end has impressed at this camp.

Cornerback Jeff Okudah, a 2020 No. 3 pick, will return to Detroit for much of the season due to a ruptured Achilles. Okudah has only played ten games in two seasons, but he has flashed bright moments, including an interception of Kyler Murray in 2020.

Yeah, I think everything is going smoothly, according to Okudah via Sports Illustrated All Lions. This week was pretty good. I mean, im not trying to be too hard on myself, not playing in 11 months and being out here after the Achilles. So, I'm happy where I am at, but at the same time, Im still demanding more of myself every single day to get to that next level.

Feleipe Franks, a rookie tight end at Atlanta, will face a promising young player on the other side of the ball. The former quarterback has made numerous appearances at camp.
