Apple TV+ has released the first pictures from the Brie Larson-starring series Lessons in Chemistry, which reveal her performing science alongside her co-star and on-screen love interest Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick). Lee Eisenberg (WeCrashed) is the showrunner for the Apple Studios series, which Larson executive produces.
Lessons in Chemistry, a novel by author, science editor, and copywriter Bonnie Garmus, is based on Elizabeth Zott (Larson), a woman in the 1950s who aspires to be a scientist in a male-dominated society. She is left pregnant, alone, and dismissed from her lab, leaving her with only the intelligence of a single mother. When she takes a job as a television cooking show host, she hopes to bring back the joy of science.
Elizabeth and Calvin are busy setting up their equipment in the lab, but even as Calvin is busy setting up their equipment, Elizabeth can't help but notice her. In the book, the pair have a bizarre connection for the time. Elizabeth decides to keep their relationship going without marriage, while still preserving her own identity and her dreams of becoming a full-fledged scientist.
Larson and Pullman are joined by a talented cast in the drama, including NAACP Award winner Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away With Murder) and multi-Emmy and Golden Globe winner Beau Bridges (The Fabulous Baker Boys). Other actors include Stephanie Koenig (The Flight Attendant), Thomas Mann (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), and Kevin Sussman (Better Call Saul).
Elijah Allan-Blitz will serve as co-executive producer of Lessons in Chemistry alongside Larson, who is also an Emmy-winning writer for Aggregate Films, Eisenberg and Natalie Sandy for Piece of Work Entertainment.
Lessons in Chemistry has no release date.
