Cult of the Lamb, a roguelike fantasy game, sees players manage a cult while usurping the Old Gods. It's arduous, funny, and there's more than a few minutes available for reflection as players strive for ever-new unlocks.
Devotion, which involves having cultists pray at the shrine, and holding sermons, are two primary methods of unlocking mechanics within the Cult of the Lamb. While gaining Devotion will allow for the cult to construct unlocks, such as the Outhouse, holding sermons will give the Lamb greater abilities within the Crusades.
Getting unlocks for Crusades
The only way to unlock permanent Crusades upgrades when the Lamb moves up north into the Forest of the Old Gods is through attending sermons. These will give the Lamb more power for the Red Crown, thereby granting unlocks for stronger weapons, sorceries, and Tarot cards within Crusades.
However, holding sermons without purpose will only negate this opportunity. As with most things, there is a time and place.
When to hold a sermon
Players will want to choose the appropriate sermon time within Cult of the Lamb. If many cultists have sour moods, through a recent death or large amounts of uncleanliness, players will notice that they receive less power from sermons than usual. Read a few minds of your cultists before starting the sermon of the day: theyll let you know if there is an issue.
If your cult hunger or cleanliness bubbles exist, try to relax the mood a bit before launching a sermon, as this will help you get through the day. For later upgrades, squeezing every drop of power from each sermon (while your cult struggles) is the path to victory, so get used to managing expectations and happiness before trying to exploit your followers.
