Yesterday's Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Fest included a lot of surprises, including some top-tier Kirby music, but one of the concert's greatest "wow" moments was made by Kirby's voice actor.
Kirby does have a voice; it's not a conglomeration of noises! But, even better, she's pretty adorable herself. Makiko Ohmoto has been playing the pink puffball in video games since the first Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64 and made her series debut in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
Ohmoto performed at yesterday's concert, and many who saw the stream were surprised. However, everyone was totally captivated by her in just a few seconds.
Given Kirby's popularity, and how many people both young and old love to sing her soft, funny voice, it's unsurprising to note that Ohmoto herself is a ray of sunshine.
Kirby's voice actor was pleasantly surprised to see her in person, but all she had to do was "do the voice," and she won everyone over.
Some Twitter users expressed their surprise that Kirby even had a VA, let alone that she would be making an appearance at the concert. Ohmoto even sang a duet of 'Welcome to the New World' with Neichel to close out the program.
Makiko Ohmoto plays the pink puffball in several Nintendo titles, including Kirby: Right Back At Ya!, Queen Sectonia (Kirby: Triple Deluxe) and Susie (Kirby: Planet Robobot). In the Smash Bros. series, she's also the voice of Ness, who is also used in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
She's had a number of other notable roles on Nintendo games, including a long-time voice of Makino from the anime One Piece and a recurring role in the Samurai Warriors and the Warriors Orochi crossover games. But, most surprisingly, she's the voice of Sayaka Maizono from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc.
She's a gifted artist and a household name, and everyone loves her. It was a lovely surprise to see her at the concert yesterday.
