The following article contains spoilers for Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows.

What We Do in the Shadows, a recent Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Series, is proof that it was renewed for a fifth and sixth season before Season 4 was released. The show pushes beyond this familiar format (one that was also used in the 2014 film with the same name that the series is spawned from) and instead focuses on a group of vampires living together. You wont find that at Dunder Mifflin.

What We Do in the Shadows isn't based on its unique premise, continuing to push the boundaries of comedy, increasing the stakes (pun intended) for its protagonists, and never slowing down and allowing the viewer to get used to things as they are. None of them, including the vampire Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and his human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillen), is the only one to be changing.

Nandor may be a confident and dominant leader, but all of his fears are hidden. How lonely? It's not a big deal. 10 years ago it might have been. In 2022, hypersexual vampire Laszlo (Matt Berry) has admitted to being with men too. It's just how things are.

Nandor is an established vampire hunter who will do anything for you. Guillermo does everything he can to keep you alive. He only hope is to be bitten so that he may be able to become a vampire. If Nandor turns Guillermo, he may no longer need Nandor and leave him.

Nandor and Guillermo's friendship has blossomed this season, demonstrating that Guillermo is not just his slave but his best friend. He saves Guillermo's life and shows him respect when Guillermo's life is jeopardized in a fight with other vampires. He is on the verge of admitting it, and this time meaning what comes with it. He has to convince Marwa that he can.

What We Do in the Shadows is a good idea. Both characters need each other for laughs or shock value. If Guillermo was changed, he wouldnt leave Nandor at all. Instead, we can watch him fight and murder Guillermo whenever he discovers that he has met someone.
