Is Dead Island 2 back?

Is Dead Island 2 back? ...

Dead Island 2, a zombie action-RPG that was announced in 2014 and was initially planned for release the following year before largely disappearing from the public consciousness, is now available on Amazon, with fresh screenshots and a since-deleted description of the long-awaited sequel to 2011's Dead Island.

Dead Island 2's listing also disclosed a release date for the game: February 3, 2023. (It's worth noting that the newly leaked listing for Dead Island 2 is different from previous Dead Island 2 listings for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which have a placeholder date for December 31, 2022.)

Players will have six characters to choose from, each with their own unique personality and dialogue, according to a description of the game, which has been removed from the Dead Island 2 listing.

Here's a portion of the latest story description from the game:

A deadly virus is sweeping across Los Angeles, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies. The city has been quarantined, and the military has returned. You learn to recognize the inside of the zombie. Only you, and the few others who must be immune to the pathogen, have the chance to save the world just one day!

The game's original creator Yager has changed hands to Dambuster Studios, the studio that developed Homefront: The Revolution for Crytek UK.

Deep Silver hasn't announced a new release date for Dead Island 2, but with Gamescom 2022 and its Opening Night Live ceremony coming up, the fresh leak seems to be a good time for an imminent (re)reveal.
