Tony Mendez, a CIA exfiltration specialist assigned to rescuing six former staff members of the American embassy in Tehran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, is directed and starred by Ben Affleck, who is able to tell a compelling story through excellent performances, and compelling dialogue.

Baahubali: The Beginning

The Beginning, the most expensive Indian film at the time of its release, is a biblical epic by Marvel Studios, with a bit of Hamlet and Step Up in for good measure. It's all about Shivudu, an adventurer with superhuman strength who escapes his provincial life by scaling a massive waterfall, aids and romances a rebel warrior named Avanthika, then joins her to rescue a kidnapped queen from an evil emperor.

Michael Mann's unfairly maligned Blackhat is a well-known digital film director. While investigating an FBI investigation, Chen insists on the help of his old friend Nicholas Hathaway (Chris Hemsworth, who has never been hotter or cooler), an imprisoned genius hacker. It adds an additional layer to an already high-stakes situation.

Blackhat explores our evolving global relationship to technology through sharp digital cinematography and unforgettable set pieces. Mann shows the world's microscopic computer systems in a massive interconnected highway; a computer fan that sounds like a jet engine; and events that normally would be depicted as a dull stroke of keys instead depicted as hypnotic happenings beneath the surface of the visible world.

Blade Runner 2049

Ryan Gosling plays Officer K, a Blade Runner in Los Angeles who is on a lookout for a former Blade Runner who may be the answer to a fiery climate catastrophe that he believes was created by Ridley Scott. Blood and Bone is a superb example of the action genre and of Michael Jai Whites unique abilities as a filmmaker. From our list of the best Netflix action films:

Michael Jai White is a treasure trove in these parts, and of the many excellent DTV action films he has starred in, Blood and Bone may be the best. When Isaiah Bone meets Pinball (Dante Basco), he discovers how far the powerful people who control the circuit will go to maintain their illegal business. Mandylor plays Sue, the veteran debt collector who French meets on his first day of work.

As the two get deeper into their work, they discover a scheme that puts a young child at danger, and they consider risking it all for themselves. Andrew Niccol has never produced a better film than Gattaca, either in 2011s In Time or 2018s Anon, yet neither has managed to surpass the sheer wonder of his directorial debut. With a powerful retro-futuristic setting, Vincent frees himself from the suspicions of the perpetrators who solved the crime as well as those of his co-worker Irene Cassini (Uma Thurman), the film is a spellbinding tale of science fiction.

Goodfellas is one of Martin Scorsesses most popular and well-known films, and perhaps his last unimpeachable classic. Scorsese went on to repeat over and over, especially the introduction of a whole pack of colorful gangster characters who dont matter as much to him. (Im funny how? I mean funny like Im a clown? I amuse you?) its a sprawling saga of a criminal watching the world change until he doesnt recognize it anymore, made before any

The Ip Man movies

The four main Ip Man series titles (all on Netflix) and the spinoff Master Z: Ip Man Legacy (not on Netflix, but on Peacock and Tubi, among others) are fantastic martial arts dramas. They are a great starting point for anyone interested in getting into the genre and a great comfort watch for martial arts enthusiasts.

Donnie Yen is completely immersed in himself as Ip Man, the sassy Wing Chun grandmaster who taught Bruce Lee (played by Danny Chan Kwok-kwan in the series), among others. The first two films were directed by Sammo Hung, the next two by Yuen Woo-ping; if thats not enough, I'll tell you what.

Ben Whishaw takes center stage as the Peruvian bear cub who travels aboard a lifeboat to London in search of a new home. While avoiding the dangers and hazards of the big city, Paddington sets off in search of the explorer who long ago explored his country.

Paul Verhoeven's 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers is set in a far-off future where the Federation, a fascistic military organization that rules the planet through a planetwide system of mandatory conscription, initiates a full-scale invasion of a terrifying race of giant alien insects.
