Dominaria United, one of Magic: The Gathering's most powerful planeswalker cards, will have a reprint in the coming autumn set.
Liliana of the Veil, a three-mana planeswalker originally published in Innistrad, is returning to Standard and entering Pioneer after only seeing reprints in masters sets in 2018.
We promised you! #MTGDominaria is on the rise! Maybe next time more of you will agree when we say you need to be excited! Tune in to the #WizardsPresents starting at 9am Pacific on Friday, October 14th! https://t.co/yATw4Hmaun pic.twitter.com/hYEHxDa5Nm
Liliana will take a smaller, personal journey in the Dominaria United story that follows her after the events of Strixhaven: School of Mages. At some point, she has another confrontation with the Chain Veil.
Dominaria United is available on digital on September 1 and 9. It will be available worldwide on September 9.
With Standard rotation just around the corner, the format will have a fresh appearance, and it's almost a guarantee that Liliana of the Veil will be a regular fixture in the top decks.
Liliana of the Veil
- Mana value: 1BB
- Type: Planeswalker Liliana
- Rarity: Mythic Rare
- Starting loyalty: Three
- First ability: +1: Each player discards a card.
- Second ability: -2: Target player sacrifices a Creature.
- Third ability: -6: Separate all permanents target player controls into two piles. That player sacrifices all permanents in the pile of his or her choice.
Liliana is dominant due to the fact that she starts attacking the opponent's resources early. On turn three or two, Liliana can begin forcing the opponent to discard or act as a removal.
Liliana was a strong permanent that could not be allowed to sit on the battlefield for many turns in slower value-based Black decks in Modern. She fits very well into the Riveteers, Obscura, and Maestros three-color decks. There are also several good two-color Black builds that could use Liliana to great effect.
Liliana's inclusion in Dominaria United also implies she'll be bringing her new role in Pioneer. Many players are eager for a card like Liliana to push the formats Jund and B/R over the top of format staples like Lotus Field and U/W Control.
Since the release of Modern Horizons 2, Modern has largely moved on from Liliana as a standard item, but a Standard reprint will likely reduce the price, making the card easier to obtain for grinders of older eternal formats.
