MTG Dominaria United expands its Sagas business

MTG Dominaria United expands its Sagas business ...

Dominaria United, a new Magic: The Gatherings set, brings Sagas back with a completely different twist on the well-known card type.

Sagas are an Enchantment that is introduced in Doninaria and that triggers various abilities over a number of turns. The card type has become one of the most well-known mechanics in Magic: The Gathering.

Sagas were returned in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty with a change on the card type, turning them into an Enchantment Creature on the third chapter. With this ability, the player may initiate a saga with any number of lore counters. The Saga does not get a counter until the last chapter.

Sagas may enter the battlefield on the second or third chapters without having to wait to receive the rewards. During the first day of the Dominaria United preview season, two saga cards revealed showed that it is not always the best decision to go straight to the final chapter.

The World Spell

  • Mana value: 5GG
  • Type: Enchantment Saga
  • Rarity: Mythic Rare
  • Keyword: Read Ahead
  • First and second chapters: Look at the top seven cards of your library. You may reveal a non-Saga permanent card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in random order.
  • Third chapter: Put up to two non-Saga permanent cards from your hand onto the battlefield.

The World Spell can slam two large threats onto the battlefield immediately following the first chapter. It may be worthwhile to allow the Saga to play out from the beginning.

The amount of possibilities is fantastic. It gives the players more choices, something that Magic design has been leaning towards since the release of Dominaria in 2018.

The Phasing of Zhalfir

  • Mana value: 2UU
  • Type: Enchantment Saga
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Keyword: Read Ahead
  • First and second chapters: Another target nonland permanent phases out. It cant phase in for as long as you control The Phasing of Zhalfir.
  • Third chapter: Destroy all Creatures. For each Creature destroyed this way, its controller creates a 2/2 Black Phyrexian Creature token.

This is a nice Blue board wipe for four mana. It can be used immediately to destroy all creatures and replace them with 2/2 tokens. It can enter on the first and second chapters to phase out a creature before the bass destruction.

The first two chapters of this chapter may be used to clear the path for your own attacking creatures. Cards such as Slip Out the Back from Streets of New Capenna are usually used to phase out your own creature, but can be used in specific situations to phase out opponents blockers.

On September 1, Dominaria United will be available in Magic Arena and Magic Online. A worldwide tabletop release will take place on September 9.
