First off, let's get this straight. Neverwinter is a free MMO, but it's also one of the best free RPG games around. If you like the lore and history of D&Ds Forgotten Realms, you'll also enjoy its Dungeons and Dragons game. There are eight classes available, from rogues and rangers to wizards and paladins.
Youll get to experience some truly memorable adventures throughout the main campaign, dungeons, and raids. Whether it's finding a disgruntled demon somewhere to rest where they won't be disturbed, or engaging in a 12-part campaign to defeat Baphomet in the Forgotten Realms, everything is free. Just be prepared for a grind when it comes to some high-tier items.
Neverwinter is a free game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3 removes all of the previous moral ambiguity, challenges racism and bigotry, and, of course, monster hunting, and places them in a vast world, withsaucy scenes that rival the most salacious ofsex games. The result is a remarkable RPG that sets the standard for open-world adventures.
Every quest offers an opportunity to not only learn more about the war-ravaged territories and its inhabitants, but also to be enticed into the complex drama. A simple contract, such as directing series protagonist Geralt to slaughter a monster, can turn into a long series of consequence-laden stories.

Even when you get lost in the harrowingness of the dark fantasyworld, CD Projekt Red has created arguably the greatest DLC ever created with Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, which has an even better quest than the base game. The Witcher 3 is a game to be relived while you wait for the Witcher 4 release date. A great selection ofWitcher 3 mods
Elden Ring is a great RPG game, but it also ticks a ton of other boxes. Its gothardcorecombat as a major part of the gameplay loop, so it tends more towards the action-RPG side of the spectrum if thats important to you. You may also see other people's positive Elden Ring reviews as well.

As a member of the Tarnished, you must explore the Lands Between to not only unravel the mystery of what transpired, but you must also defeat therealms fallen heroes in order to become the Elden Lord. These are unconfirmed rumors, though, that youll want to arm yourself with some Elden Ring beginner advice, as well as guides to all of the Elden Ring bosses and the best Elden Ring weapons and armor. You may want to read up on Elden Ring Great Rune
After an obliterative night of drinking youre so hungover you can't remember who you are. From there on out it's up to you which type of dishevelled, dysfunctional, disturbed detective archetype you want to be in this secretdetective game.
Disco Elysium is different from most RPGs, as it avoids any sort of traditional combat and prefers dialogue screens over weapons. As the opening paragraph demonstrates, your rapidly assembled mind isnt exactly stable, and Disco Elysium allows you to play with each strand of thought, expand them, and use them to your advantage as you investigate a horrible murder case.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a love letter to classical pen-and-paper RPGs. Unlike most modern RPGs, it refuses to give you simple binary options, sucking you into a fascinatingly detailed world.
The uniqueness you have when it comes to roleplaying other than ourselves is evident from the character creator, who taught us to play a different hero. From the arrogant lizard, the Red Prince, through the new undead race, every decision is important as you will have to deal with the consequences that will make every difficult situation worse. Prepare for a spanking if you fail to use high ground to do more damage.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a remarkable example of three genres: the classic roleplaying game, the online arena battler, and the tabletop adventure enabler. We havent even begun on the multiplayer aspect, including the Game Master mode, which really brings theDungeons & Dragons into the spotlight?
A quick recap on Cyberpunk's first year is an understatement. The massive Cyberpunk RPG from CDProjekt Reds has a lot of potential, but its first year was bleak, and eventually it became good enough to take its place in our top RPGs.

As you explore the gigantic city of Night City, you meet a wide variety of quirky characters who may hold the key to immortality. You can then tweak them to your liking.
Pillars of Eternity
Pillars of Eternity is an exceptional RPG that combines the best elements of previous games with the Infinity Engine, such as Baldurs Gate and Planescape: Torment, while treading its own path with a compelling fantasy yarn and a richly detailed original world. It's no wonder we found it one of the best games of 2015.
Obsidian Entertainment is at the top of its game with the beautiful writing the studio has done so well in previous games. Everything in Pillars of Eternity has been meticulously crafted, down to the smallest details. Every region on the map is filled with difficulties waiting for nosey adventurers.

Obsidian builds on the trustworthiness of its spiritual predecessors to create an experience that does not rely on nostalgia to deliver its hits. The whole experience is more like a tabletop RPG experience than many of those grounded in D&D.
The inhabitants of this apocalypse game fall into two camps: helpful and well-meaning townsfolk, or psychopathic monsters seeking for blood. Everything has a price, and everything has a price.
This means that you should conserve resources wherever you can; picking unnecessary fights is the most efficient way to drain your ammunition, refill medkits grenades, or lose one of your best fighters to a bullet to the head. Also, doing favors for NPCs puts you in good standing with some factions, but can also rob other players of valuable resources.
Wasteland 3 Wasteland 3 Fanatical $39.99 Now available Network N earns affiliate commission from qualifying sales.
Our Wasteland 3 review demonstrates that this is a game that takes you on a moral journey and corrupts you, making everything you thought was so impossible about an apocalypse seem so normal. However, it's quick thinking that keeps your group alive.
Fallout: New Vegas
Obsidian reintroduced everything that made the original isometric games so great, while incorporating elements from the best Western games for good measure. You really feel like you're making your own cheminage through the wastelands, rather than being pushed along by an invisible director.
Fallout: New Vegas makes you one of the unfortunate survivors of this planet. Your quest runs out of leads, leaving you to go wherever you like: being good, evil, or anything in between to make New Vegas the most adventurous Fallout game. You can join the NCR, join the slave-loving Legion, stand up for New Vegas, or just be a selfish asshole.

In New Vegas Fallout: New Vegas Come Fly With Me, the writing, worldbuilding, and black comedy are all on point. And while we are on the subject, what will it take for Bethesda to allow Obsidian to take another crack at the universe?
Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Baldurs Gate II is a meticulous reconstruction of D&Dslands of the Forgotten Realms, which is bursting with stunning settings that are waiting to be explored. Hundreds of hours of saving villages, delving into mines, killing Gnolls, and even a deadly journey to the Planes are explored in Planescape: Torment.

The legendary Chiris Avellone's extraordinary writing and dialogue elevates these many quests with wit and charm and serenity, entices players into seemingly trivial quests and, of course, it's the adventurers who join the hero who get the best lines, and none more so than Minsc, the legendary Ranger who talks to his cosmic space hamster, Boo.
Jon Irenicus, who has the distinction of being one of the best antagonists in any game, is expertly voiced by well-known player of villains David Warner. Irenicus has all of the characteristics of a classic villain, though he does not appear throughout the game, his influence reappears throughout everything, which is as astounding as any.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
The EA legendary collection of all three Mass Effect games makes it easy to decide which one is the best. This space game has all of the elements you could want from an RPG: thrilling battles, epic storytelling, and many Mass Effect Legendary Edition romance options.
In this tense (and ultimately, suicidal) mission to save the galaxy, Mass Effect perfectly merges the sub-genres of speculative fiction and space games, and is BioWare's greatest achievement in terms of world or, rather, galaxy building.
BioWare's typically excellent dialogue punctuates dramatic set-pieces and workmanlike squad-based combat. And simply wandering around alien locations, sticking your nose where it belongs because thats what humans do in space, adds to the overall package.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim isn't just one of the greatest PC RPGs, it's an institution. It's managed to stay relevant and highly playable long after its 2011 release, constantly enticing players back into their mage robes. With the help of many, many Skyrim modsandconsole commands, of course.
The atmosphere is infectious, aided by perhaps the finest musical theme of any videogame. Whether you're facing gigantic dragons as its frosted mountain peaks puncture the sky, or simply responding to the mysterious chime of the Nirnroot plant by a rivers edge, Skyrim is a game that requires you to unravel every detail.
Because few other games can replicate Skyrim's ability to make an adventure feel like it has. If youve done everything you can do in this magical land, here are some games like Skyrim that might satisfy your hunger. The release date for The Elder Scrolls 6 is certain to be ahead of the game's release.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
Where its predecessor, made by BioWare and not Obsidian, is a fantastic addition to the Star Wars universe complete with a twist worthy of The Empire Strikes Back, KOTOR II takes the venerable IP and takes it in a completely new direction to make it one of the best Star Wars games on PC. Instead, we are treated to a narrative that explores the force and what it means to be shut off from it.
The Sith Lords Fanatical $9.99 from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
The protagonist of Exile KOTOR II is forced to think about every move and how good acts can outperform evil ones, pushing himself ever further towards pragmatism. A often depressing and bleak game, it's as much about personal exploration as it is about gallivanting across the galaxy, getting into lightsaber battles, and utilizing the force.
Kreia, the Exiles' secretive mentor, is arguably the greatest part of KOTOR II. She pushes the Exiles, berates her, and tries to teach her valuable lessons, all while presenting the force in far more interesting ways than any of the films could.
Shadowrun: Hong Kong
Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a pleasant respite from the 90s. It's a neo-noir cyberpunk mystery with tons of magic, fantasy elements, and combat that's similar to XCOM's strategy games. It ticks a lot of boxes and, somehow, it manages to fulfill all of them. Set on a future Earth where science and the realm of the arcane struggle to coexist, and beings like elves and trolls roam the streets
Humble: Shadowrun: Hong Kong Extended Edition $19.99 Buy now Network N earns affiliate commission from qualifying sales.
From spirit summoners who can enter a digital realm and fight computer programs to samurai who run around with a bunch of remote-controlled robots, a freeform character creator opens up new possibilities and avenues in your investigation.
Hong Kong builds on the previous two games, focusing on overhauled decking (hacking) and fully realized, likeable characters. You investigate the death of your foster father with a rag tag group of Shadowrunners and discover yourself embroiled in conspiracies, mystical events, and a mystery that engulfs the whole city.
Deus Ex is more of a stealth FPS/RPG hybrid and one of the best cyberpunk games on PC, but its still well worth the inclusion even after 18 years on its list as a joy to play and one of the finest PC games ever created.
We may waste a great deal of time reminiscing about the fantastic narrative that weaves themes of conspiracy, terrorism, and transhumanism together with interesting characters in a believable dystopian future. Equally, we could go on and on about the breadth of character customization, letting you hone the trenchcoat-wearing J.C. Denton into a cybernetically enhanced soldier, expert hacker, or a ghost who lurks in the shadows.
Every map is a complex sandbox, whether you are playing it as an FPS game or straightstealth game. Any combat encounter has the potential to play out in significantly different ways, if you take the time to participate in it rather than slinking past it. Secret paths, hidden caches, informants waiting to be bribed, and confidential information opening new paths litter the levels, ensuring that when you discuss your experiences with another player, the choice in moment-to-moment gameplay is as strong
When we first wrote this article, we didnt even pay attention to Diablo 3. Blizzard had lost its way, causing a ridiculous economy and eliminating the need to go looking for the best loot. Diablo 3 was simply not a great PC game back then.
The expansion threw in so many new features that it became difficult to remember why Diablo 3 should be avoided. All of these changes came for free, too. Diablo 3 is a classic zero-to-hero story.
And so there you have it, our list of the greatest PC RPG games. It's certainly not a short list, but why should you look into some greatracing games, or maybe some management games if you have your thinking hat on?
