Peacock has just released a chilling new teaser for Friend of the Family, an upcoming true-crime limited series that takes a dramatic look at one of American history's most extraordinary instances of fraud, manipulation, and deceit. The teaser is scheduled to launch this fall on the streamer.
The story of Robert Berchtold's kidnapping of Jan Broberg is told in a secluded suburban area in 1970s. Both Mary Ann and Bob, played by Colin Hanks, offer sympathetic remarks as they tend to their small, idyllic existence. Soon, however, Robert (Jake Lacy) becomes the target of their daughter Jan.
The incident may ring a few bells as it was previously covered in the 2017 documentary Abducted in Plain Sight, in which the Broberg family offered their own perspective on the situation. The documentary soon became an internet sensation, with many speculating as to what drove the Broberg family to allow such a dangerous manipulator to take control of their lives.

Nick Antosca, showrunner, executive producer, and writer of "Friends of the Family," hopes that people will leave the series with a deeper understanding of the Broberg family and say: "They made terrible mistakes, but they loved their kids." This contrasts with Antosca's previous project, Candy, which examined a highly sensationalized 1980s murder.
Jan Broberg will be played by Paquin, Hanks, and Lacy, and Hendrix Yancey as a young Jan. The series will consist of six hour-long episodes. Both Alex Hedlund and Eliza Hittman served as executive producers on the series.
On October 6, 2022, Peacock will release a new trailer for the series. You can view it here.
