Netflix Has Ordered Historical Soap Opera From Jenji Kohan and Kathleen Jordan 'The Decameron' ...

As a result of the purchase of a brand-new series from Kathleen Jordan, the creator of Teenage Bounty Hunters and produced by Orange Is the New Black, Netflix hopes to find success again with a period piece drama set in the 14th century.

Deadline provides additional information on the series' theme, which ranges from humorous to tragic. The Decameron, by 14th-century Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio, is a collection of short stories that range from humorous to tragic. In an effort to quell the deadly plague, a group of Florentine noblemen retreats to a grand farmhouse in the Tuscany countryside.

Jordan will be the showrunner and creator of the series. Although the setting and name were inspired by Boccaccio's work, the narrative she has for the series will be entirely original. I'm so ecstatic that I'll get to work with Jenji, Tara, Blake, and Netflix again, according to Jordan. Im sure Giovanni Boccaccio would be confused with a 1971 film from Pier Paolo Pasolini, which was renamed The Decameron.

Tilted Productions will hire Jordan to perform as showrunner alongside Kohan as well as Blake McCormick and Tara Herrmann. Mike Uppendahl (Ratched, American Crime Story) will direct the series and the film will be shot in Italy, according to Deadline. Kathleen Jordan is the real freakin' deal.

The Decameron will be released in 2020, but there is still no word on when it will begin production.

The deadline for submitting a request is Friday.
