Season 20 of NCIS Boss: It Might Be a Good Time for a [Spoiler] Update ...

Season 20 of CBS NCIS might catch a fan-favorite character who hasn't been heard from since their abrupt departure.

Season 15, which aired back in May 2018, set the stage for original cast member Pauley Perrettes to depart by a seemingly random street mugging in which the assailant fired several bullets into MI6 agent Clayton Reeves and critically wounded NCIS Chief Forensic Scientist Abby Sciuto in the process. Reeves' injuries were immediately fatal, while Perrettes' hospitalized character clung to life.

Abby, who had learned that Reeves died a hero in the course of her protection, returned to his London residence before embarking on this new chapter in her life, including a semi-conspicuous ASL farewell to Gibbs, Gibbs, and Gibbs!

Abby has been absent from television viewing in the years since, although that may be remedied in Season 20, which will premiere Monday, September 19, at 9/8c.

We are always thinking about ways to involve [Gibbs] in a way that doesnt rip off the scab and doesnt ruin what I thought was the only appropriate send-off for this guy, Binder said, alluding to Boss moving to Alaska.

The showrunner said she wants to get to know Abbys' [presence] a little more. There are so many moving parts, but she is still here fighting the good fight and watching us. She is a part of us. We were a part of her.

Binder did not specify if Perrette, a former cast member, would give an on-camera encore.
