The Whale, Brendan Fraser's newest film, was premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, and his big-screen comeback was uneventful to viewers.
The actor portrays a man who abandons his family for a new lover, but begins to binge eat when his lover passes away.
He tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter, weighing 600 pounds. The role required him to wear a prosthetic suit that gave him the necessary strength.

According to Variety, the standing ovation for Fraser and the others who filmed the film lasted six minutes. A video shared on Twitter showed the actor becoming visibly emotional and attempting to leave the stage, but returning to give a bow due to the constant clapping from the audience.
Fraser is mentioned as a frontrunner for an acting Oscar, but only time will tell if he is actually nominated.
Fraser said of his role in the film, "It's gonna be something you've never seen before."
"That's all I can say," he said. "The outfit and costume were extensive, seamless, and cumbersome. This is certainly different from anything I've ever done, but not to be coy."
The re-emergence of the Mummy actor has hit a rough patch, as he was meant to portray Firefly in the HBO Max Batgirl film, which had shot nearly all of the scenes needed.
The film was written off due to a merger between Warner Bros and Discovery, and is unlikely to be released until the end of the year, while a number of other DC projects were also canceled.
The Whale is expected to be released in US cinemas on December 9th. No release date has been announced yet for the United Kingdom.
