For quite some time now, the Meta Quest 2 (formally Oculus Quest 2) has been the preferred VR headset for Steam users. However, in a surprising twist of events, many people are opting for mystery alternatives.
The Oculus Quest 2's market share sank by 8.18% in August 2022, compared to 42.04%, although Metas' VR headset is still ahead of its competitors, with the Valve Index occupying second place with a much lower 13.16%.
The number of Steam users who own VR headsets has dropped to 2.60%, down 4.07% from the previous month, but it's unclear where former Quest 2 users have flocked to. The group Other entry has increased by a huge 13.76%, now accounts for 15.07% of the devices' failure.
Zuckerberg's $100 billion VR business ambitions are bountiful, but it remains to be seen whether the recent Oculus Quest 2 price increase will lead Steam users to competing products like the Pico 4.
Those looking for the finest VR headset may want to save money for the upcoming launch of Project Cambria, which might offer a more premium virtual reality experience for gaming and metaverse shenanigans.
