A video of Tom Cruise and his director Christopher McQuarrie posing for a midair action sequence for the upcoming eighth Mission: Impossible film has been circulated online. The video was initially shown before the trailer for Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One at this years CinemaCon in April. It also contained the first screening of Top Gun: Maverick.
Cruise is shown flying in a Boeing-Stearman biplane during a World War II presentation to theater owners who had gathered at CinemaCon. The camera panned out and revealed another plane, this one was occupied by McQuarrie, who reminded Cruise that they have a film to film, and that they are short on fuel.
The video demonstrates not just the expense that Cruise and McQuarrie are willing to go to to capture practical, in-camera action, but also the beautiful landscapes of South Africa. Previously, the crew had also shot an aerial stunt sequence over Cambridgeshire in the United Kingdom.
Hey, everyone, I wish I could have been there to witness the latest installment of Mission: Impossible. And right now, we are filming the gorgeous Blyde River Canyon in South Africa, which is where we are filming. And we are filming this film for your pleasure in your wonderful cinemas.
Cruise has long been a proponent of big screen entertainment, remember that moment when Christopher Nolans Tenet was asked to stay, and he paid off the effort, bringing Maverick to a critical halt in 2022, when it grossed more than $1.42 billion in domestic sales. It recently became the sixth film in history to gross more than $700 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
M:I 7 will feature returning players Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson, while Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and Cary Elwes will star as the films' primary antagonist. On July 14, 2023, Dead Reckoning Part 2 will release in theaters on June 28, 2024.
