The Mario film from Illumination was originally scheduled to be released in 2023. This might have been the perfect opportunity to provide further information on the upcoming animated feature for some; however, whenever we have gone looking for news, all updates appear to have been moved to another castle.
Bis now, at least, it has had a Twitter mention. It's possible that this 'Mario Movie' will be released on the Illumination Studios Paris website, after months of searching for the correct name. And, what a board meeting it must have been, to come up with this one.
The upcoming film, 'The Mario Movie,' will no longer be dubbed foolishly, no. Illumination seems to be pushing the boat out even further as they appear to have titled the film - wait for it - Super Mario Bros.
Now we are equally surprised as you that the team behind such titles as Despicable Me and, erm, Despicable Me 2, would make such an original naming decision with their newest Nintendo IP, but at least everyone will know what the film is based on.
Since the Big N itself has neither officially confirmed this title, nor did a statement from Illumination, so the prospect of finally seeing Chris Pratt star in 'Plumb and Plumber' has not been eliminated.
Selling a big name like Mario was always going to require a lengthy upfront marketing campaign, and if that is the reason for one of the most predictable titles we've ever seen in a while, then so be it. An original title was never more than a pipe dream.
Instead of Super Mario Bros., what title would you choose? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
