Xolo Mariduena, who plays Blue Beetle in DC's next film, had a pretty incredible journey.
Mariduena, who plays Miguel Diaz in Netflix's Cobra Kai, explained that he obtained the role of Blue Beetle without even auditioning or uttering a single line of dialogue as the character in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter. Naturally, this gave Mariduena a fair amount of "imposter syndrome."
"There was a bit of impostor fear in the beginning. 'Oh my God, how do they know? I haven't even read a word of the script!' Everyone was so kind and instilled such confidence in me during filming."
"Blue Beetle isnt intended to make me the next heartthrob or biggest star." It's just to demonstrate to individuals, 'Hey, these stories about Latinos do not have to be limited to narcos or crossing the border or being a gang member. You can be portrayed in a positive light.'
Blue Beetle, a DC comics character that will be released in August 2023, will be the third incarnation of the character. This version's real name is Jaime Reyes, who is granted superpowers as the alien Blue Beetle Scarab bonds to him and gives him a superpowered exoskeleton suit.
Bruna Marquezine, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, and Susan Sarandon star in the film, which also stars Angel Manuel Soto, who directed La Granja and Charm City Kings before returning to direct another untitled Transformers project.
After canceling a number of animated television series, DC Films and Warner Bros. Discovery have recently made the headlines, most notably after they cancelled Batgirl, despite the film being very close to complete. Others are concerned that other DC films, including Blue Beetle, might have also suffered the same fate. Mariduena responded to this question in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.
"It seems like everything is very close, right?" said Warner Brothers and Beetle. But I think everything that has to be said on the topic has been addressed by [the parties involved.' I think the creators and Leslie [Grace] have said everything that had to be said.
Miguel is played by Mariduena in all five seasons of Cobra Kai, with the fifth season set to premiere later this week on Netflix.
