State of Decay 3 has made the leap, and the latest installment in the Undead Labszombie franchise will have the Gears of War developers lending them a hand during the switch.

Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, spoke on the Xbox Major Nelson podcast on September 5th to discuss the State of Decay sequel, which is all good news.

Booty stated that State of Decay 2 is a base model for the next installment, with the development of State of Decay 3 continuing in the background.

It's a really neat little stealth game that keeps on growing, and it's nice to get an update. I think we've reached eleven million lifetime players on State of Decay 2, which is fantastic. All of this, the things they're doing there, are really the testbed, the proving grounds, for all the stuff that's going on in State of Decay 3.

Booty went into more detail about the lengthy back and forth discussions with developers: We have a system in place, we just call them summits, where we bring subject matter experts together for one or two days.

Weve had animation summits, UI summits, Unreal Engine summits, physics summits, etc. In the last year, I believe we had about 25 of these.

It's our primary means for teams to exchange technology back and forth.

State of Decay 3 is hoping to build on the solid foundation and continue to achieve franchise highs thanks to all of the Gears development.
