Maverick has established yet another box office record with Top Gun ...

As the legacy sequel to Top Gun: Maverick sets a new record, the success of the film continues to surge.

The latest Tom Cruise film has become the only film to top the chart on both Memorial Day and Labor Day, which is celebrated on the first Monday of September in the United States.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to the original Top Gun film grossed $7.9 million over the Labor Day weekend (as per Comscore's estimates).

Top Gun: Maverick is in its 15th weekend and has so far earned more than $1.4 billion since it launched in April.

The sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home, which features Cruise returning in the role of pilot, has outperformed Sony's rerelease of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed $6.6 million for the four-day weekend.

Tom Holland's third appearance as Spidey aka Peter Parker lag behind Maverick and Sony's star-studded, fast-paced Bullet Train, closing the long weekend at $7.3 million.

Cruise's next move into action territory will feature the hotly anticipated return of his IMF agent Ethan Hunt on Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One and Two.

The eighth film is expected to be Cruise's final film as Hunt, although director Christopher McQuarrie isn't interested in it.

Top Gun: Maverick is now available on Sky Cinema, NOW, and Virgin TV. Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled to be released on July 14, 2023.
