How to Increase Your Inventory and Storage Space

The process of changing your inventory is simple, but costly. Your backpack may be expanded in proportions of seven spaces. These upgrades, however, come at the cost of 5,000 Star Coins, which are going to be difficult to obtain at the beginning.
Talk to Scrooge outside the bank/shop building near the plaza. He will have many quests for you to complete that involve helping him set up the bank and store building. After a while, he will demand that you begin up the valleys economy by selling a bunch of gems at Goofys Stall.
If you increase the size of your house, you will notice a Scrooge McDuck sign out front. Interact with the sign, and Scrooge will appear. Increase your storage space. You may do this multiple times to increase your storage space.
