The second season of Bee and PuppyCats is now available on Netflix ...

Bee and PuppyCat is now available on Netflix after many years, many delays, and some accidental leaks. And that includes the long-awaited season 2.

However, this Netflix release, like Bee and PuppyCat, isnt just a collection of new episodes. To fully understand whats now on Netflix, one must first understand how Bee and PuppyCat came to be.

The long history of Bee and PuppyCat

Natasha Allegri, a former Adventure Time character designer, created Bee and PuppyCat as a two-part web series that later became viral, that Frederator decided to start a Kickstarter campaign to produce a full web series. At the time, it was the most successful animation Kickstarter in history.

Bee, a cheerful, chronically out of work twentysomething, discovers a strange hybrid puppy-cat creature that talks in mysterious chiming sounds in her small town. The episodes are balanced with exciting space adventures and mundane-but-still-challenging Earth issues; it's still relatable to younger audiences, but gives the characters a different set of difficulties.

Bee and PuppyCat's first four episodes aired on YouTube in 2014, with the next six originally planned to follow suit. However, two years later, they ended up on digital aggregation platform VRV. Many fans didn't realize that new episodes were being made. Eventually, in 2018, they ended up on YouTube again, where they still remain today.

Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy in Space was announced in 2017 with an eye on a 2019 release, but it was hampered by Frederator's ongoing search for a new streaming service. The entire season of the show was accidentally leaked on Frederator's Vimeo channel in early 2020, and they were, naturally, quickly removed.

Which Netflix episodes of Bee and Puppycat are there?

Some enthusiasts were irritated when the first trailer for Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy in Space was released. Many of the scenes in the trailer appeared to be from the first season, though with minor differences. Was Lazy in Space just a reboot?

The answer is yes... and no.

The first three episodes on Netflix appear to be a remake of the show's first season. It's not a straight up shot-for-shot remake, nor is it entirely new content. There are similar beats from the original first season (Bee gets fired and PuppyCat falls onto her umbrella during a walk home in the rain), but with some expansion (Bee actually at the job she got fired from, while a literal fire occurs).

Condensing them into three half-hour episodes makes sense, as the setup remains the same, but with more exposition and gorgeous new animation (the first season is still available on YouTube, if you want the OG).

Seasons four through 16 are the most anticipated, much-awaited, and much-awaited return!
