Ellen Pompeo might be less likely to appear in fewerGreys Anatomy episodes this season, but she will not be MIA for the premiere. This is because ABC released the first footage from Season 19's opening hour (airingThursday, Oct. 6, at 9/8c) and Meredith is very much in it. (Watch the video above.)

Greys is introducing a slew of rookies to help fill the void. Co-star Kevin McKidd was recently enthused, claiming that those incoming doctors will inject new blood into the show.

New to the cast isNiko Terho, who played George Borelli in the 2020 Freeform filmThe Thing About Harry, a resident who is determined to become a surgeon (just like many in his family that have come before him);Midori Francis(Sex Lives of College Girls) as Simone Griffin, a high-achieving and hard-working young woman who never intended to work at Grey Sloan due to a difficult personal history with the hospital.

Chandra Wilson (Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard), who ended Season 18 on the run from the law with their kids; on-screen newlyweds Kelly McCreary (Maggie) and Anthony Hill (Winston); Camilla Luddington (Jo); and Jake Borelli, who found his Schmitt unfavorable future when the Grey Sloans residency program was closed in the finale.
