Megan Hilty, a Tony-nominated Broadway actress who appeared in the NBC musical drama Smash, died in a plane disaster near Seattle, Washington, on September 4. Lauren, her husband, Ross Mickel, and their baby, Remy, were among the nine people who were on board a floatplane that crashed into Puget Sound near Whidbey Island.

The single-engine De Havilland DHC-3 Otter went down on Monday, according to TMZ, and a search to recover the nine passengers and pilot was halted; only one of the ten victims' bodies was discovered.

Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy, and their unborn baby boy, Luca, have been deeply saddened and beyond weary. Our collective grief is unimaginable. They were a bright and shining light in the lives of everyone who knew them. We will continue to cherish their legacy.

The family thanked the United States Coast Guard and other first responders and citizens who assisted in the search and rescue effort, and they expressed their condolences to other family members and friends who are grieving the deaths of loved ones.

The Coast Guard has released the names of the pilot, Jason Winters, and the other six passengers, including Patricia Hicks, Sandra Williams, Luke Ludwig, Rebecca Ludwig, Joanne Mera, and Gabrielle Hanna. Remy Mickel was the only child on the board.

Megan Hilty may be best known for playing Ivy Lynn on Smash, but she has had a long career on stage. She was nominated for a Tony Award in 2016 for her role as Brooke Ashton in 9 to 5: The Musical, Annie Get Your Gun, Little Shop of Horrors, and more. She joined the Smash show in 2012, appearing in all of its two-season run before NBC canceled it.

Megan Hilty has done most of her voiceover work since Smash and can be seen as KC the Koala on T.O.T.S., Prisma on Sofia the First, as well as Patsy Cline on the Lifetime film Patsy & Loretta, as well as Lily St. Regis as a member of the cast of Annie Live! in 2021, and has appeared on shows including The Good Fight and the NBC sitcom Sean Saves the World.

Megan Hilty's pain is unbearable for all of her friends and relatives who died in the tragic death of her sister and other family members. Our condolences go out to her and all of the victims during this difficult time.
