The 1047 Games team has decided that in order to maintain the game fans deserve and to build it in a manner that isn't attempting to retrofit and live operate an existing product, we must put a halt on feature development on Splitgate, according to a tweet shared on Twitter.

Splitgate's nimble concept and gameplay has spawned a strong and dedicated community over the previous three years. The game has received a high rating from Steam users, after more than 100,000 reviews.

1047 Games does not disclose much more about the upcoming game, other than the fact that it will also be a free-to-play shooter with portal guns. Splitgate thrived where many other shooter games failed due to the power of these portals. When I first played it in 2019, I marveled at the tactical possibilities it opened up.

Portals allow players to fake each other out, make clever escapes, and take tricks at otherwise impossible angles.

While the existing game is a fantastic shooter, it will be interesting to see which new directions the developer takes the title. Games like Apex Legends and Valorant have experienced success by focusing on the game's character design and establishing a compelling roster, while other titles are focused on increasing PvP modes and match types.

1047 Games says it will continue to support Splitgate with minor updates and fixes while the new title is in development.
