Jennifer Lawrence is telling fans to increase her salary for her Oscar-nominated apocalypse film Dont Look Up a year later.
Lawrence said in a new Vogue cover story that she was extremely pleased and happy with her salary package for Adam McKay, which gave her top billing but a $5 million-less paycheck compared to Leonardo DiCaprio's co-stars. In 2013, Lawrence said she was paid less than her male co-stars for American Hustle, which she was nominated for.
Lawrence explained that no matter how much I earn, I'm still not going to earn as much as that guy because of my vagina?
Lawrence also addressed the politics of the United States' sexism and misogyny, culminating in the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Last year, the Winters Bone actress told Vanity Fair that Dont Look Up co-star DiCaprio was extremely gracious about her receiving top billing; McKay said he wrote the part of an astronomy graduate student for her.
I think we had something called a Laverne & Shirley, which is this formula where everyone gets equal billing. But maybe some time down the line, I kicked the stone further, like, What if it wasnt equal?' Lawrence said.
According to Vanity Fair, DiCaprio earned $30 million for Dont Look Up, while Lawrence received $25 million. This is in line with the 2020 gender pay gap in America.
Lawrence said at the time that he was surprised and pleased by his purchase. But in other situations, what I have seen and that I am certain others in the workforce have also observed is that it is extremely difficult to inquire about equal pay. And if you do ask about something that appears unjust, youre told it is not gender discrimination.
