Update [Wed 7th Sep, 2022 11:40 BST]: Hey, folks, the Illumination Studios website has been updated once more, reverting the release date for the Super Mario Bros. Animated Film to 'Spring 2023.'
We're not sure what transpired in this case, whether the 'Holiday 2023' announcement was a mistake or was prematurely announced, but regardless, it appears like we can expect to see the new Mario film sometime next year... For the time being.
Original Article [Wed 7th Sep, 2022 04:45 BST]:
Following a rumour earlier this week about the Mario movie's official title, there appear to be a few more developments.
Illumination Studios Paris has actually made a few changes since Monday, as shown by GoNintendo. Firstly, the name has now been changed to Super Mario Bros. Animated Film, which implies it's still a working title. And secondly, the same page states the film will be released "in theaters holiday 2023".
Yes, it's correct, the new date is reportedly scheduled for the end of next year. What makes it even more confusing is the fact that the poster next to it still has the old release date of "holiday 2022." Hopefully, the phrase "holiday 2023" is just a typo.
Shigeru Miyamoto, who said the film would be released in April 2023, gave the last official announcement earlier this year:
"This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to rescheduled the worldwide release for Spring 2023, April 28 in Japan, and April 7 in North America."
We'll let you know if there are any changes.
