Life may be like a box of chocolates, but Tom Hanks does not desire to eat the same product twice.
During the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via The Independent), the Elvis actor disclosed that the idea for a possible Forrest Gump sequel was almost immediately dismissed following the release of the initial film.
I will say that with a long time between, we did try to talk about another Forrest Gump that lasted all of 40 minutes, as Hanks explained. And then we never, we said, Guys, come on.'
Hanks said that after the 1994 original movie, there would be no obligation to reprise his famous role of Forrest in the pop culture heaviest moments of the mid-20th century.
Hanks said it was a smart move because I have never signed a contract that said it would be necessary to remake something. I have always said, Guys, do it if there is a reason to do it. But you guys cant force me. There is that natural instinct that is pure commerce that says, Hey, do it again, and you'll have a hit.'
Perhaps more Forrest will be on his way soon with Top Gun: Maverick breaking box office records and many other remakes of well-known 1980s and 1990s films like Road House and Dirty Dancing in the works. As the film ended, Forrest is now a father mourning the love of his life, Jenny. But until then, the Bollywood remake of the Oscar-winning film is the only recent remake.
After Paramount Pictures vetoed an increased production budget, Hanks paid out of pocket for select Forrest Gump scenes, including Forrests across the United States, in exchange for a profit-sharing agreement with Paramount Pictures.Hanks earned an estimated $65 million for the expanded box office percentage deal.
Hanks admitted that he was self-conscious about getting into the swing of playing Forrest earlier this year.
