Benoit Blanc Cracks Another Case in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Trailer ...

Benoit Blanc has re-signed his position at the end of the season.

Rian Johnson's murder mystery sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has released its first trailer, which includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Ethan Hawke.

The original Knives Out was one of the strangest blockbusters in years. A original whodunnit without any prior intellectual property rights, the creative film flourished due to the strength of its ensemble cast, Johnsons clear interest in the murder mystery genre, and the politically charged spin that he placed on the film without being overly heavy-handed. A sequel was inevitable.

Netflix purchased the rights to direct and distribute two sequels after a lengthy bidding war, for almost $400 million in compensation. Glass Onion will see Benoit Blanc travel to Greece to tackle a case that should be different from Knives Out in nearly every way.

Johnson talked about the series but this, the idea of doing more of these with Daniel as his character, isn't sequels. It's just Agatha Christie's work. It's just coming up with a whole new mystery, a whole new location, whole new characters, and everything. It's a blast.

Johnson is developing Poker Face, a new case-of-the-week mystery show starring Natasha Lyonne, that will be streamed on Peacock for a 10-episode run.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. It will be available on Netflix beginning December 23, although it has yet to state when the film will be released in cinemas.
