Queen Elizabeth II is now mourned by the whole world after she ruled Britain for 70 years.
After a few months of health difficulties, the queen died at the age of 96. Prince Charles of Wales, is now king, with Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, being the next in line to the throne.
The queen died after being placed under medical care and a postponed Privy Council meeting. At Balmoral, the Scottish Highlands estate, the monarch passed away.
Queen Elizabeth II, a direct descendant of Queen Victoria, was born in 1926 and became queen after her father King George VI died in 1952. She had four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward. Philip died in April 2021 after retiring from royal duties in 2017.
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon, according to the official Buckingham Palace Twitter page. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
The son of Queen Elizabeth, now King Charles III, issued a statement in honor of the matriarch.
King Charles III wrote that the death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a source of great sadness for me and all members of my family. We deeply mourn the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother. Her loss will be felt throughout the country, the Realms, and throughout the world.
My family and I will be reassured and sustained during this time of mourning and change by our knowledge of The Queen's respect and deep affection.
The Prince Harry's Archewell non-profit website simply stated, "In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II." Harry resigned as a working member of the Royal Family in March 2020 and moved to Montecito, California with his wife, actress Meghan Markle.
