Carol Burnett is a national treasure and one of the most well-known women in American comedy history. The Golden Globes named her television lifetime achievement award The Carol Burnett Award. She recently made headlines when she appeared on the Emmy-nominated AMC drama Better Call Saul.
Burnett helped set the stage for a show like SNL to thrive, thanks to a now-virtual tweet pleading for Burnett to host.
Carol Burnett, who has never hosted SNL, is 89 years old. NBC will put an end to this hoopla now. August 29, 2022
This tweet sparked a firestorm, with others voicing their support for Burnett's return to SNL.
Why was Carol Burnett never invited to host Saturday Night Live? August 20, 2022
Patton Oswalt, a fellow comedian, participated in this beneficial online campaign.
Carol Burnett, please come on. https://t.co/HzT7O484oRAugust 29, 2022
Carol Burnett has a new audience backing her in Better Call Saul. Marion is the elderly mother to a cab driver named Jeff, who came to his defense when the con man changed his name to Gene and disappeared in Omaha.
But Could It Happen?
If Lorne Michaels is paying attention to what fans are clamoring for on the show, it might very well happen. According to The Blast, an insider claims that Michaels will do everything he can to get Burnett on the program.
Carol will remain unnamed or be asked to host, but if the trend continues, as it did for Betty White, Lorne, and the show, they will absolutely strive to make it happen.
Carol Burnett will be the oldest person to host the network's mainstay once again in 2021. Currently, Betty White is 88 years old when she hosted the show back in 2010, and was a good friend of Burnetts until her death in 2021. I'm sure she would make a fantastic host.
I hope to get more SNL news as the new season on NBC returns this fall. In the meantime, you can see the first five seasons of Better Call Saul now for Netflix subscribers, although Burnett's episode isn't yet available on the streamer.
